Chapter 17

◆ Maki's POV.

I was running. Running so quick with my tears splattered over until I heard someone calling my name.

"Maki, wait!"

It was Eli. Why's she calling my name? I thought I told her to take care of Nico. What if anything happens to her when she's away?

"M.. Maki." She started. I raised my one eyebrow and give her my what's the matter-face.

She straightened-up her body and then place a smile on her face. A sincere smile.

"May I come with you?" She said. After hearing that, my face flushes red. I don't know what happened.

"I thought I told you to take care of Nico."

"Oh, please Maki. I already told a nurse to take care of her. She'll be okay. Let me come with you. We can talk about things." She begged me. What is her problem? Why all of the sudden she really wanted to spend some time with me?

"Why?" I asked, not knowing what to say next. I'm tottaly speechless.

"Because I'm lonely." She said while she faced the ground. "I'm so sorry, Maki. I've done a lot of bad things to you. I regret it. Please, forgive me."

Her tone sounds so sorrow. I think she really does regret everything she has done. Okay, I'll forgive her.

"Okay then, I forgive you." I said with full of pride. Her eyes began to sparkle as I said that words. She run towards me and then she, hug me. I almost jumped when she did that. What in the world just happened?!

"Thank you, Maki! I'm glad that you forgave me." She said while she free her grip from mine. "Hey, wanna go to the cafe there?"

"Sure." I replied. I am hungry, so of course I will not refuse that offer.

And now, here we are at the table, eating our meals that we ordered together. I bought a smashed potato barbecue flavor with vegetables as the topping, while Eli bought a strawberry apple pie with maple syrup. It's delicious.

"This meals are delicious, aren't they?" She started to ask.

"Yeah, you're right about this cafe. It's great!"

"Hehehe, told you Hospital's cafe is more delicious than other cafes out there."

I smiled.

Yeah, she's right. Why I haven't think about this before? My father is the one who owns this hospital but I don't know that the cafe could make amazing foods. I always think that the foods are tasted like medicine before.

"I just remembered that we haven't order our drinks. What would you like to order?"

"Um, I'll just have a tomato juice." I said. I love tomatoes and I missed them so much. It's been a while since I haven't eaten any tomatoes. "And you?"

"I'll just have a banana smoothie."

I nodded and mouthed the word okay. When I was about to stand up, she immediately grabbed my arm.

"Wait. Let me pay our drinks." She said.

"No, it's okay. I can pay it by myself." It's my Hospital after all.

"Maki, just let me pay your drink. I want to return the favor because you wanna eat with me."

Well, okay. I can't do anything with that. I let her pay our drinks. I don't know that she can be super sweet to people.

Not long after that, she returns with the bill.

"The drinks will come, just wait."

I nodded and smile, again. And then, I continue to eat.

"Hey, Maki." She called.
What again?

"Yes?" I answered.

"Want to try my meal? Don't worry, it's delicious." She offered, while handing me a spoon of apple pie.

"Yeah, I want it. But, I can hand it by myself, Eli. I don't want to be like baby-sitted."

"Nah, I don't care. Just one spoon from me? Please???"

"Okay, whatever." I said with a chuckle. My face became red and my heart beats fast waiting for it.

I open my mouth and then a spoon of apple pie landed in my mouth. It's delicious! Oh my, I don't really know how to describe this food in detail.

"How was it?" She asked.

"It's good." I said with a smile.

"Hah, I knew it!" She said, teasing me.

We both laugh happily. Maybe all of this time I missgudge her. She's super nice after all. I swear, if she stay like this forever, I'll make her my friend.

Suddenly my mind came to Nico. I started to worry about her.

"Hey, Eli. We should get going. I started to worry about Nico." I said honestly. What if anything happens to her? What if the nurse is a serial killer?

"Sure." She answered, before gulping and then prepare everything to leave the cafe.

We exited the cafe and then immediately walk fastly to Nico's room. I mean, I'm the only one who's walking too fast, Eli is just walking normally. Weird, I thought she loved her. She doesn't even care for her.

Finally we made it to Nico's room. I opened the door harshly, I didn't even mean it tho. I then run to Nico who's still lying helplessly since yesterday.

Thank goodness she's still okay.

Eli suddenly appear behind me, holding my right shoulder.

"She's cute, isn't she?" She asked.

I smiled at that question, cause, she is. I put my hand on Nico's forehead and then I rubbed it. It felt so soft.

"Yeah, she is." I answered truthfully. Suddenly I feel the need to be alone. "Excuse me Eli, will you leave me alone here for a minute?"

"Will you be okay?" She asked, feeling concerned.

Since when did she care so much to me?

"Yeah, I'll be okay. I just want to be with Nico. I'll let you know when I'm done."

"Okay." She said with her slow-tone. I saw that she frowned a little, but after a few seconds, the frown was replaced with a smile again. A weak smile, though.

She stood up, and then she walk outside.

So, here I am, with Nico. The person that I loved so much.

Remember when I ran outside leaving Eli here alone and expect her to take care of Nico? To be honest, don't freak out! Because I was about to commit suicide.

Yeah, I know I'm crazy, and stupid. I just, I can't stand it anymore. I felt useless to this world. I made people uncomfortable with their lives. I just, I just can't. And I thought that I can't live without Nico. I realized I really needed her in my life. Loosing her is the same like loosing my right arm. Means that my life's not complete. So, there I was. Decided to commit suicide.

But, Eli saved me. She really saved me and made me realized how precious and fair life is. And, make sure that you haven't misunderstood me, because Eli is still nothing compared to Nico. Nico is like my whole life.

While thinking of that, I rubbed Nico's hair and I accidentally touch the tip of her nose. Aw, cuttie pie.

In a sudden, my eyes started to water. In realization, I whipped my tears away. Why am I crying anyways? Haha, weird.

This time, without realization, I leaned forward to her face and then,

My lips meet against hers.

Gently, I started to move my lips with Nico's. No, it's not just a peck, it's a real kiss!

Not long after that, I broke the kiss on purpose. I don't want this to continue. I realized that I'm loving a person who's already dead. It's useless. I'm too late.

Suddenly, I heard a voice

"Maki?"
