Cassiopeia stared at the dagger that originally belonged to Calyx. It gave her power but she decided maybe now is the time to give it back. But before that, she is preparing herself for the execution of the prisoners. It is not her first time to watch one but this time she will be the one to facilitate. She will be the one to kill just like what she did to her father. Yes, you heard that right, her father's death had caused a trauma in her. The feeling of being able to do it to someone she loves is what scares her and thus the reason, she remained cold to everyone.
But something whizzed past her and struck her wooden bed post. She turned only to see an arrow sticking out of her bed post. She noticed something attached in it. She walked towards it and plucked of the note pinned to it. In bold letters, it is written,
I SHALL SEE YOU, MY QUEEN. WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT. PINE FOREST, IN THE FIRST WEEK OF JULY. I AM EXPECTING YOU TO COME OR ELSE I, WILL COME AND GET YOU MYSELF.
- L.D. SOUTHERN KINGDOM
She narrowed her eyes at the initials written underneath the message. It could be one of those persistent suitors or some enemies her dad made before. But she is not sure. Something feels wrong about the letter. She feels that someone is going to trap her once she follows the letter. And so she decided not to come. She placed the note in her study and descended towards the door along with her dagger. And once again, she wore a cold mask in her face, ready to face the scared townspeople.
She went to the balcony and smirked at the audiences gathered around the area. They are all noisy and conversing but when they saw her, they immediately shut their mouths.
"Good day, people of Salem. Today, we are gathered to witness the deaths of traitors who went against our kingdom. And I must say that in this kingdom, traitors will be given death, for no traitor must live inside this kingdom."
The townspeople started murmuring and someone shouts in disagreement. Cassiopeia gestures at her soldiers and they fired an arrow near the person who shouted. The crowd is silenced once again.
"Silence or you will suffer the same fate as them. Do you want that to happen? Step up those who is against me, Everyone who will not support and be against my ideas will be labeled as a traitor. Now, step up, traitors and face your own death," she warned and no one made a move. She smiled coldly. Now she controls the people.
"Watch as the traitors face their deaths! Kill them!" she ordered the soldiers. The soldiers prepared their bows and shot the prisoners. One by one, the prisoners collapsed with their blood flowing in the ground. The people gasped. Some started crying silently. Some covered their eyes during the execution. Some have bloodshot eyes. But all of them are silent because of fear.
"May this event be an example to all of you that traitors are not allowed in this kingdom. Go back to your businesses." she said and turned her back from the dispersing crowd. Once she had her back to the dispersing crowd, she cast the dagger and looked at her reflection in it. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. Then she hid the dagger again and walked away from the balcony.
She went to her garden maze and started preparing herself for the journey she will have for tomorrow. She prepared her bow and arrows and wrapped the dagger in a red cloth. Since the sorceress' lair is very dangerous and her dagger attracts the unwanted monsters in the forest, she have to hide it. After that she went out of the garden maze and went to her adviser.
"Why are you here for, milady? Do you have something to ask, perhaps in ruling out a new system?" the adviser asked in an old, husky voice.
"No, none of that, Mr. Ravel. However, I have a favor to ask since you are my adviser," she said.
"Anything you say, milady," the adviser said.
"I want you to substitute for me while I am gone," she said. The adviser gasped and looked at her curiously.
"Where will you go, milady? Don't you think going away is a bad idea?" the adviser said.
"I just have a very special errand, Dentritus. It's going to be a bit personal," she answered coldly. Dentritus, the adviser nodded his head.
"Alright then, milady. But when will you go to your destination?" he asked.
"I'll go in the first light. I only needed a horse. I won't bring any soldiers. They are needed here in the kingdom," she answered.
"If that's what you want, milady then I will ask the servants to prepare your needs for this journey," he said.
"Thank you, Dentritus. You've proven loyalty to this kingdom. I am sure the Heavens will someday reward your for this loyalty," she praised him. Dentritus smiled thinly.
"I am glad for it, milady. I will prepare your needs now," Dentritus answered. Cassiopeia nodded at him.
"You should, then," she said turned her back at him not knowing that her journey will turn her life upside down.
