(Nikolai)

My heart is rushing, my feet are pounding upon the floor and my mind is a network of all kinds of broken things. I just can't seem to function, all that I can think of is why, why, why? Why is she so willing to give her life away all of the time? Just what is my brother planning to do with her... with us even? Was everything that Ms. Zaroni had said, was it true or was it all a lie? What if my brother was watching us and had already found out about what she had told me and is now taking my Serenity away from me? What if... what if?

I don't just open our bedroom door, I slam myself into it. Instantly I don't see her anywhere and I begin to panic but more and more. I go into the kitchen, I open her closet, I look out onto the patio and even under our bed. But she isn't anywhere! She's not anywhere at all! My heart consumes my mind in it's reckless beating and I nearly run as I go kick down the bathroom door, which apparently had been locked. But that no longer matters now that I've broken it off of it's hinges. But I hastily overlook it and rush in and then.... finally, I have found her. I freeze and will my breathing to finally slow down.

(Serenity)

I hear a loud shuttering sound, almost as if the door had just been knocked down. But before I even have time to think about what could've happened. I hear squeaking shoes upon the tile and then... well then there he was, Nikolai. He seems relieved to see me for some inexplicable reason and I could also see another emotion flash across his eyes. But I just couldn't put my finger on it. "Oh Serenity, I'm so happy that you're here! I thought that he had killed you for sure!" At first I am flabbergasted as Nikolai in the moment then falls to his knees and envelops me within his arms. At first, I notice his speeding heart. But then I feel his warmth and comfort and I fall into him as my eyes grow heavy. But his heart, why does it beat so wildly?

I can't help but wonder what's gotten this poor man scared out of his wits. But it was then that something had occurred to me, I screamed and jumped away from his arms as I hide behind my shower curtain. "My God Nikolai! Don't you ever knock?" At this, he freezes... realization hits him and he looks away bashfully as he lets a little smile of embarrassment creep it's way across his face and I just wanted to slap that man from where he stood.

"I thought that we had already established the fact that I don't necessarily care much for nudity or inviting myself into places without permission." At this, my mouth drops... "You kicked in the bathroom door while I was taking a bath, that's not exactly the same as just simply poofing yourself into someone's room uninvited!" He finally looks me in the eyes, "It was urgent." His fist tighten and his eyes do not waver. But I tilted my head,

"So urgent that you had to break down the door?"

"Uh... y-yes." He stutters. "Okay then, go ahead.... explain yourself." He looks down and bites his lips. My heart leaps inside my chest and I don't particularly know why. "Ren, why did you agree to make a deal with my brother?" I glare at him, "Really, that was the oh so important question that you had interrupted my shampooing for?" He raises an eyebrow "Shampooing? Since when did putting shampoo in your hair become an action verb?" My eyes squinted into a glare, "I hate you." With that, I jerk the curtain closed and sink back down into the luke-warm water.

"You didn't answer my question." This man is relentless, I sigh. "Is it really that important to you?" There's a moment of silence and all I can see is the frame of his silhouette through the dark blue curtain. He takes a seat upon the tile ground and his shoulders hunched for a change, instead of his usual casual or perfect posture. It was then that I instantly knew, that he was worried. I could just tell, just from his body language alone.
