Origins

Welcome to the Earth of universe X. This is a part of the multimeter where supernatural occurrences create super heroes with amazing powers. Home to some of the mightiest beings in existence. This is the story of a man called Luke Smith and how he becomes the hero known as shade.

The night is pitch black. Apart from the lights of the buildings, the shine of the stars and the reflection of light on the moon there is complete darkness. No lamps, no street lights and no car lights shining down the roads. People know better to be out at night. Or at least most do. Luke is not one of those people.

"That was a good movie. We should go out more often." Said Luke as he kissed his fiance, Rabecca, softly on the cheek.

"We should but it's dangerous to be out at night in Grey Star city." Replied Rabecca.

"It wouldn't be much better in the day, but I see your point." He said. "I know a short cut. Come on."

He turned into an alley. Not one of his best ideas. But he didn't realise that. He hadn't lived in the city long so he didn't know any better.

As they got to the end of the alley Luke said. "A couple more alleys and we'll be home.

They heard a thud as something landed on the ground.

"What was that?" Rabecca said as they turned round.

The cat scurried off into the darkness.
"Thank god" Said Luke as he continued down another alley.

Just before they reached the end of the alley two armed men stepped out of the shadows.

"Hands up!" One said as Luke hammered his fist into their face.

"Now that wasn't very nice" said the second man shot him in the leg.

"Ah" Screamed Luke and then he was kicked in the balls by the first man.

"Now give me every valuable thing you have on you." Said the second as he aimed his gun.

Luke and Rabecca gave up all their valuables, even Luke's engagement ring, except for Rebecca's engagement ring.

"That too." Said the first.

"We don't care if it's important to you. It is ours now." Said the second.

Luke hammered his fist into the first man but the second opened fire. The bullet struck. But instead of being killed or injured he was sent into the shadows.

"What just happened?! What is your husband?" Said the second man as he was pulled down into the shadows. "What is happe-"

As the second man disappeared the first man opened fire and a bullet went through Rebecca's head.

Luke rose up a changed man from the shadows. He was dressed in a black cloak and holstered at his side was the man that he dragged down's gun, infused with shadows.

"Your friend is dead" Luke said calmly to the man that just killed his wife. "And you will soon join him for what you have done."

"NOW DIE YOU BASTARD!" Screamed Luke at the man as he pulled back a fist.

The man lasted twelve minutes. That was all it took Luke to beat the man to death, using every torturous method he could. He then imbued the man's gun with shadows like the other's.
He left that alley a changed man. He became someone else. Something else. He became the man known as Shade!
