Close your eyes

Chapter 14

The reflections all go silent as they stare at me. My struggling finally pays off and I'm able to stand up, squishing the faces of the monsters I fell on.

"Why are they quiet?" I hear Phoenix ask and I can hear his voice clearly because of the silence

"I don't know" the lady says

I push my way through the crowd of monsters and see that their eyes are following me wherever I go. In the dark I can see a soft white glow coming from my pocket and pull out the orb. I hold it tightly in my hand and turn with it to face Phoenix and the lady, the monsters follow with their eyes.

I move my hand around and see that they follow it.

"Ok I don't know what's happening but stay here and keep doing what you're doing" the lady says and turns to Phoenix "J-" Phoenix whacks the back of her head with his hand

"Phoenix" he says in a deathly whisper

The lady rolls her eyes and gestures for him to follow her. I stand there as the monster's faces, Our faces, My face, becomes illuminated by the white glow. I hear Phoenix and the lady grumble to themselves as they drag something heavy across the ground.

The lady comes back moments later and walks to a monster that looks like herself and she pulls out a small bottle of water from her pocket. She unscrews the lid and forces the monster's mouth open, pouring some of the liquid into its mouth.

The monster shakes violently and falls to the ground. She does the same to a monster that looks like me and Phoenix and they fall to the ground. She puts the bottle back inside her pocket and drags two of the fallen monsters out. She comes back into the room and does the same to the last one, my monster.

"Come out" she calls and I go out of the previously boarded room, scared and convinced that at any moment the monsters will jump on me. I make it out of the boarded room and run to the open entrance and out into the corridor.

I collapse next to Phoenix and see that he is sitting on the robot and the bodies,he has a bleeding hand. I raise my eyebrows at him and he says

"Hurt it opening the door"

I nod only now realising that they had to pry the door open and I hear the lady slamming the door shut and locking it. I hear pounding and screams coming from behind the closed door and stand up instinctively.

The lady laughs and says " This door is cursed to keep them inside"

I nod and fall on the bodies suddenly exhausted.

"The water and the light?" I ask and she nods

I nod and mumble a soft 'ok'.The pounding and cries stop and my ears echo with their screams. Phoenix points at the lady and says

"You have got a lot of explaining to do"
