" Mommy? "
I chuckled, my dark locks bouncing as my 8 year old self skipped through the fancy corridors of my apartment building.
" Mama, I'm coming! " I listened to my voice echo through the hallway, but received no response.
As usual, the door to our apartment was unlocked.
My bubbly mother would be waiting for me behind the kitchen counter- prepared to jump out and attack me with her signature kisses.I silently made my way to the kitchen, assured that my mom would come out any second now.
" I'm home! " I shouted.
Alas, disappointment reached my face when informed with my mothers absence.
My eyebrows furrowed to reflect my confusion." Mommy- come out already! "
I whined, my voice pitched with slight annoyance.Maybe she changed her hiding spot?
Surely- that was it.
A toothy grin spread across my face." Mommy! " I called out, my lungs aching as I ran- checking any possible hiding spot in our apartment.
There was one more room left.
Moms.Wired up, my little hands fidgeted with the doorknob. She had to be here.
The door burst open as I sprang inside the room, eager to greet my mother.
And that's when I saw her.
Not the cheerful, lively mother I saw everyday. Her expressionless face sent shivers down my spine." Mo- Mommy?.. "
My glassy eyes focused on my mother- who was laying in her bed, her pale fingers wrapped around a pills tube.I ran up to my mothers inanimate figure, trying to fool myself by thinking she was asleep.
" Mommy- wake up! " I cried, clutching her ice cold shoulders as I struggled to shake her awake.
" Mom! " I clasped my shaking hands over my mouth. My breaths were sharp, and my heart was following an irregular pace.
I climbed on to the bed, burying my tear stained face in her sweater as I embraced her lifeless body.
" Please don't leave me mama. " I wailed.
" Y-you can't! "Pathetic.
Suddenly, I wasn't in my apartment anymore- and my meek hands were grasping nothing but thin air.
I looked around, surrounded by darkness.
" Where- Where am I? And where's mom?! " I yelled, trying my best to mask the panic I was feeling.
Right here.
I gasped, rushing towards my mother.
I attempted to grab my mothers form, but instead was engulfed in a pile of smoke. I coughed- covering my mouth with my sleeve to prevent any smoke getting in my lungs. What are you waiting for?
I turned around in swift motion.
And there she was again.
Her outstretched arms indicated for me to come forward, and I did.
I ran at the speed of light- but even that wasn't enough to prevent her disappearance.I stumbled as I ran, my face painfully meeting the ground.
Too late.
She's gone, and it's all your fault." No! " I shouted, denying the truth.
You killed your mother.
It's all your fault." N- No! I love mommy, I would never hurt her! "
But you did, you couldn't save her. You're the reason she's dead.
My ear piercing scream echoed through the surrounding nothingness.
You killed her.
I shook my head furiously.
" No! No I- "And now, it's your turn.
The ground beneath me crumpled, bringing me down with it as I fell.
I let out my final scream, and then the void absorbed me.
