4.The invitation

The bell rang and know they had to go to their classes. Simon had maths with Derek, Tom had French with his girlfriend Sue while Georgia had science. Derek and Georgia were twins but they preferred not to be together in classes because they wanted to learn by their own. They became Simon's friends in the first year of high school. Their friendship started the first day of school when they couldn't find the principal room and got lost. It was really fun. Then they had lunch together and the twins met Tom. As for Sue she joined the squad when she moved from China with her parents. She moved in the neighborhood where Tom lived. She had difficulty in adjusting and the language so the boy next door helped her with all of these. Sue was really happy to meet someone like Tom because his presence made her feel much better after she had to left all of her friends in China. After one year they started dating and now they were a happy couple in love.

"Students please stop the noise and take all a seat." the teacher said.
Derek and Simon never sitted next to each other because it was a rule they had created for some unknown reasons. But the seat on Simon's left was empty. Who was absent?
Then the door opened and a sweet voice was heard.
"I am really sorry professor that I am late."
In the door was standing a beautiful blue-eyed and blond-hair girl.
"OK miss Brawn but I'm forgiving you just because it's the first day. Don't repeat it again. Take a seat please."
"Thank you professor. "
Daphne looked around for a seat. There was one next to Simon so she went there. Simon became really nervous. Daphne Brawn was going to sit next to him. She approached but slipped a bit becauseof the rush and she placed her hand on Simon's shoulder so she wouldn't fall.
"I'm sorry Simon" she said.
In that moment Simon's heart started beating like crazy,his palms started to get sweaty and he started to feel butterflies in his stomach. Wow Daphne remembered his name.
"It's okay. " he said trying to keep calm.
She smiled (her smile was so perfect ) and took out her notebook from her bag.
"God first day and I'm a disaster. I have forgotten to take a pen."
"You can borrow mine." Simon told her.
"Really? Thanks Simon. You are a life saver you know how angry mister Rogers get when we don't take notes.
She said again his name with her voice which sounded like music.
"Yeah he has probably some issues."
"Hey Johnson am I hearing something? " the teacher said.
"Sorry"
"My explanation is important to you. I know you want a good future for yourself. "
"Yeah whatever " Simon said with a quiet voice. Daphne made a silent laugh and started taking notes.
The boring class ended finally.
"Here's your pen Simon. Thanks again. "Daphne said smiling.
"No keep it for next class."
"Oh ok. Now I have English. What about you. "
"Another boring class. History. "
Daphne laughed and then said something Simon never expected.
"You are really fun Simon. I know we haven't talked much but I was wondering if you want to have lunch with me."
"Well I emmm I well..."
What the hell? The popular Daphne Brawn asked him to go to lunch with him? He had never seen that day.
"Ahaha, what Simon? Cat got your tongue? See you at lunch. " she said winking.
"Hey lover boy. What did miss Perfection tell you? " Tom said. Actually Tom had never liked Daphne. To him she looked like a girl who is depressed because can't find the right tone of lip gloss.
"She invited me for lunch! I can't believe it."
"What?? Doesn't she have those cheerleaders and football players for friends?
"She said I'm fun."
"Please stop. You look like a teenage girl."
"What should I do? "
"Are you serious? You will have lunch with us not her."
"But Tom, you know how I feel toward her. "
"You're not the only one who is crushing miss Perfection Simon. Why don't you meet a normal girl like I have?"
"Listen I don't have time. I'm going to be late. Gotta go."
"Yeah whatever " said Tom.
"Hey that's my saying. Don't copy me.

At history class Simon couldn't pay attention at all. All he could think about was Daphne inviting him for lunch. But at the other hand his friends could feel bad if he left them.
Lunch came really fast. In the hallway he saw Alex with some girls smiling and staring at some boys.
"Girls " he thought.
"Hey Simon. "Simon heard Georgia.
"Oh hi Georgia. What's up?
"Everythingis fine. I plan to get a whole pizza for lunch . Let's go. "
But Simon didn't move his wheelchair.
"Buddy what's wrong? Do you need help? "
"Well actually I need an opinion. Daphne invited me for lunch but Tom didn't want me to go. He's kinda right though. "
"Don't worry Simon. I think you should go. I know how much you like her. Tom told you that because he hasn't still got over his lost to her in that stupid science fair. This might be your only chance to build a relationship with her. As for the others I will handle them. "
"Thanks G. You're the best."
"I know don't need to remind me that . And stop rolling your eyes."
"Whatever. So let's go now."
"Yes. Good luck lover boy. "
