My Story

Sleep. Something we all treasure. Well, most of us. You see, I've been asleep for seven years. But, that's pretty much how it goes when you're in a coma. How did I get in a coma, you may ask? Trust me it's not some tragic romance story, considering I was only eleven when the incident happened. My story is pretty screwed up to be honest.

It was a cold night. I had been at my friends house all day and finally was home. I went to bed around 10:45, which is pretty early for me, but it had been a long day. It was Christmas break so the weather was freezing. I'm not one to sleep walk, but on that particular night I had. Thinking back on it now though, it probably happened for a reason.

Long story short, I ended up sleep walking into our pool. When I fell in the freezing pool, I woke up. But, I soon lost consciousness when I hit my head on our diving board. I was pretty much drowning, and my parents didn't even know what was happening. You may be wondering why I'm still alive. Well that's an easy one. My 16 year old neighbor, Issac Greene, was on a late night walk and saw the accident. He jumped in and saved me.

My parents blame themselves for not having a pool cover, but I don't. I'm an only child who is eleven and can swim. A pool cover was not needed. It would have just been a waste of money.

I was soon after rushed to the hospital, slipping in and out of consciousness. All I remember was hearing my mom tell me, "It'll be alright baby. We're not giving up on you." It was heartbreaking to hear my own mother so sad. It broke my barely beating heart. I wanted to cry with her and tell her I'm ok, but my bleeding head and freezing hands told otherwise.

So, at eleven years old, I was a living tragedy. I hated myself for sleep walking. But in the end, I knew I couldn't control what happened. The only thing that bothers me, is that I have these reoccurring nightmares of me drowning in new ways. Only, nobody is there to save me.

My name is Sarah Beth Johnson, and that's only the beginning of my tragic story.
