The Girl in the Closet
By Julia Brooks
Introduction
It was just an ordinary day when all of the sudden, my whole world turned upside down.
Chapter 1
It was the morning of school and the first year of my junior year at East Sac. I was 16 years old and I loved my family very much. When I woke up I was in one of those moods where I loved everything, I was just so happy and I didn’t know why. I got dressed and went downstairs to see my mom making breakfast and my dad reading a newspaper and drinking coffee. I went into the bathroom to brush my teeth and do my hair. When I was all done I sat down at the table and ate my mom delicious bacon, sausage, yogurt, and a glass of orange juice breakfast. She always made that for me because it was my favorite breakfast and the only thing that I would eat for breakfast. After I was all done I grabbed my bookbag and headed to the bus, but before I walked out the door my dad told me to come home right after school because he wanted to talk to me. I said that I would and I walked out the door and got on the bus.
Chapter 2
When I got on the bus, I saw my boyfriend that I have been dating for 4 years, Jake. He told me to come sit with him because he had a surprise for me because it was our 4 year anniversary. When I sat down and the bus started moving he pulled out with a box that had a pink bow and my name on it. “What’s in the box?” I asked. “It’s a little present from me to you,” he said. When I opened it, there was a necklace in the shape of a heart and a picture of me and him when we went to Colorado by ourselves for a little vacation inside of the heart. I couldn’t believe what I saw, it was so beautiful and I loved it the minute I saw it. He looked at me and I looked at him. ”Do you like it?” I was speechless. When we got to school I thanked him for the necklace and he put the necklace on me so I could show the whole school. As the day went on, everybody asked me where I got my necklace and I told them that Jake got it for me. They loved it as much as I did. At the end of the day I met Jake in the hall. “Do you wanted to do something tonight?” I told him that I couldn’t because my dad wanted to talk to me about something. He just looked at me, gave me a kiss on the cheek, and walked away.
Chapter 3
When I got home I put my bookbag in my room and I went out in the kitchen where I found my mom and dad sitting at the kitchen table looking very suspicious. ”Sit down and don’t talk, just listen.” “What’s going on?” I asked as I was sitting down. ”This isn’t something that you want to hear, especially from us,” they said in a sad voice. “Am I in trouble?” I asked. “You're not in trouble, but we need to talk to you about someone, someone that means a lot to you.” “You can’t get mad at us, we just want the best for you and because we love you,” they said. When I heard that I was shocked, so I asked them who it was. When I asked them that they looked at each other and then looked at me and there was a long period of silence. “Sky, we need to talk to you about Jake.”
Chapter 4
I was in shock, I couldn’t even say a word. I thought my parents liked Jake. Everytime he came over, they always said that he was a nice boy and Jake always made them laugh, helped mom around the house, helped me with school, and helped dad with fixing cars and stuff around the house that was broken. Why would they need to talk to me about Jake? I thought to myself immediately that it was something bad, but once I calmed down I thought that it might not be a bad thing, that they need to talk to me about something else. ”What’s wrong with him?” I asked. They wouldn’t say a word or even look at me. I knew right at that moment that they knew something. “Answer me,” I yelled. After a few seconds they looked at me and said that they were talking with Jake’s parents and they said that he was acting funny, sneaking out of the house, partying with some kids, and texting other girls.
