Descent into Darkness

Darkness swept over the room as the light went out. The little pitter patter of rain could be heard gently on the roof above.

The cold caressed my skin as if they were lovers at one point, holding on to a single memory.

I embraced the feeling as I began to walk, not loudly but just enough so the floor beneath could be heard.

Small moans could be heard. Was it the walls or was something in here? I kept walking, the moans getting louder.

The moans seemed close, but faded when I reached for the handle.

Click.

The rusted hinges caused the door to screech as it opened. That's when I realised I wasn't alone.

Feeling for the light switch, I hit down as hard as I could.

Pain spread through my head as the once dark room became bright, painfully bright.

On the counter that stood before me lay a very still person. Their eyes had been removed along with their tongue, fingertips and head of their toes.

I quickly ran past the body to get to the back door and that's when I noticed it.

On the body, carved into it, something was written there.

Moving closer, it read "Thanks For Letting Me In. Next Time, Lock The Back Door."

A screechy moan came from behind me followed by a click.
