Dhruv was stunned. He stared at the Trucaller ID, showing the name of the person he felt he should never have bothered about.
"How'd he get my number?!?!? I'm certain I didn't give him. Obviously it's that doctor... But why is he calling me? He could just have sent a text?" Dhruv thought.
He didn't pick the call. He wanted to meet the doctor but at the same time he didn't want to share his thoughts and experiences and feelings with anyone else, especially not with a complete stranger. But then he would get more time to spend with Krupa. What should he do now?
He started questioning the authenticity of this doctor, but found it difficult to put forth any proof to question his credibility. So next question would be to whether delete this doctor from his life entirely. But how the heck did he find his contact number?
His phone vibrated. A message. From that doctor [Dhruv had somehow remembered specific digits and could easily identify that doctor's number].
The message read thus:
"Hi Dhruv Sawant! This is Dr.M.Vaid. I came 2 kno u had come 2 my clinic today...i remember u from train... Pls call back if u need 2 meet"Dhruv thought to himself: 'So the doctor has given no clue about how he acquired my contact details.'
The phone vibrated again. A second message:
"I got ur no. Through ur clg, I'll explain later..."So did that doctor purposely avoid explaining it to make Dhruv's curiousity force himself to contact the doctor for the same?
___Dhruv calmed down a bit. Anyway he got calls from unknown coaching-classes, so how hard would it be for a doctor to get his number?
Dhruv kept his phone on one side of the bed and lied down on his back, assuming the Vitruvian Man posture [with clothes on]. This posture was helpful for taking difficult decisions in life, like whether he should use his pocket money to buy a particular novel or he should go to have lunch at a café with his neighborhood-friends whom he saw everyday. Today the decision was whether to contact the doctor, and then if he were to decide to actually meet him, he'll have to call Krupa too, and that's good, but then it would come at the cost of meeting a complete stranger. He didn't want to go so far. He could just forget all this and continue living his peaceful life [as if he was living a peaceful life]. He could tell Krupa he didn't want to meet the doctor after all...
___Dhruv didn't want to call the doctor but since his motive was to spend more time with Krupa, he decided to make the call. He sat upright, against the headrest of the bed, and held the phone in his left hand, with his thumb hovering over the contact number of that doctor. He tapped 'Call' button.
Every moment, he felt like he could just cut the call, but the memory of Krupa flashed in front of his eyes and he waited for someone to pick up, and the doctor picked up.
Manoj Vaid: Hi! Dhruv?
D: ... Um... Yes... This is Dhruv...
M: Did you want to meet me? I saw the camera recording and the guy next door, Satish, he gave me your name... I remember you had boarded at Vidyavihar so I figured you might be in Somaiya college, so I asked a friend of mine who works in Somaiya to give your phone number... I have given lectures in that institution... Plus I like to think I'm somewhat like a real-life Nanny McPhee. Anyway, you wanted to meet me?
D: No... I ... I just wanted... to.... like... um... talk.... like.... have a few words.... that's all... not an appointment....
M: Okay, see tomorrow is Sunday, and I'll be at home... If you want to talk to me you can come to my place at around 5 in the evening... I'll text you my address. Is that comfortable for you?
