Sun was a very beastly creature, according to all the other planets in the Galaxy. He was full of light and joy, and every day he would share his light with all the other planets that he could reach. One of those planets was Earth. Earth and all of the creatures that lived on her would experience the heat and light of Sun. He would always be there, watching over them. There was no such thing as night. Earth never experienced darkness.
One planet that Sun did not share his light with was Moon. She never got one droplet of Suns light, and that was because he never noticed her. She always tried to get at least a little of his beautiful rays. Sometimes Moon would get close to Earth, and try to soak up some light. Sun unknowingly rejected her, ignoring her wish for light.
On a few occasions, the Humans that lived on Earth would notice Moon attempting to accomplish her dreams. All they would do is make fun of her, telling her she didn't belong there.
After several attempts of trying to gain Sun's attention, Moon gave up. She stopped circling around Earth and started to cry.
Sun heard a sob from the distance. He looked around until he found Moon.
"My beautiful Moon! Why are you crying?" He asked her.
" Oh Sun," she said, gazing at his appearance in awe. "It's just that I dream of having some of your light, but you never notice me and you don't ever share any of your light with me. All I have ever wanted to do was to be noticed. To be wanted. But now I know that I'm not special enough to be even close to that."
Sun was in shock, and very disappointed in himself. He was so upset that he shrunk way down away from all the planets. The world suddenly became dark. All the people on Earth started to panic because there was no more light.
Moon was in sudden shock because of this. "Sun! Don't go! I'm sorry!" He was gone forever because of her. It was all her fault. She cried harder then before. Moon looked down at Earth, and saw all the people looking more calm. They pointed at Moon, and told her how beautiful she was. Soon they all looked tired, and they went into their houses and fell asleep.
Moon was confused. She looked down at herself to see she was lit up and sparkling. "H-how did this happen?" She asked in awe. A voice came from down below. "I am truly sorry, Moon. You are so beautiful and sweet and you deserve to be noticed by everyone just as much as they notice me. So, I have a deal for you." "What is it?" Moon asked.
"I will watch over Earth for 12 hours, then I will shrink down and make the sky black. Then I will shine all of my light on you for the other 12 hours, so you make the dark sky brighter, and then everyone can notice you and your beauty." Sun smiled bright at her. Moon replied "Thank you, Sun. I can't believe my dreams are coming true!"
Sun smiled lightly and said "My 12 hours shall be called daytime, and your 12 hours shall be called nighttime."
Ever since that day, when daytime is over, Sun will always shrink down, and Moon will always rise up. The children on Earth will be tucked into their beds. And when the parents ask if they want a bedtime story, the children will say "Tell me the story about how the Sun loved the Moon so much, he died every night to let her breath."
