Ever since Taehyung could remember, it had always been Jungkook.
He remembered the little dates the two would go on with their hyungs. He remembered the lion plushie, light up sneakers and the small cartoon of milk.
That's why, when young thirteen year old Taehyung watched his best friend walk into school holding hands with a girl, he was confused. What had happened to the two? Was Jungkook not Taehyung's chocolate milk prince anymore?
He thought it would change. But it didn't. First it was that girl, then her best friends. Then her best friends' boyfriends. Like that Taehyung was removed from Jungkook's schedule.
It got worse.
At least thirteen year old Jungkook nodded his head in acknowledgment. Fifteen year old Jungkook barely made eye contact with Taehyung. This hurt the tanned male more then he wanted it to. Jungkook didn't deserve his heart. How foolish could Taehyung be? Just because they made silly promises when they were five didn't mean they would stick to them.
But a little part of Taehyung wished they did.
Jungkook promised him many things as a child. A huge mansion with unicorns and puppies. Unlimited chocolate milk. A proposal with a shiny pink ring pop.
Did all of that mean nothing now?
Taehyung watched as Jungkook shared a sweet kiss with the girl next to him.
Apparently so.
The way the two had met was strange. Taehyung was happily playing in the sandbox, piling sand on top of sand. He was on a mission to build the tallest tower for the prince and his princess.
Then, suddenly, a cartoon of milk came flying down from the tree above him. It had hit Taehyung on the arm, causing a big bruise and a lot of pain for a four year old. Taehyung wailed, catching the attention of the boy in the tree.
As a four year old, Jungkook was a troublemaker. His favorite past time? Climbing things.
On that faithful day, the little boy had clambered up a tree, sitting on the lowest branch. He had put a small cartoon of milk in his pocket to enjoy once he got to his destination.
Unfortunately, the cartoon slipped out of his pocket and fell right on top of an innocent, cute boy.Jungkook felt terrible for making the boy cry so he climbed back down and tried his best to make the strange boy stop crying.
All it took was the promise that Jungkook would give Taehyung his chocolate milk.
Taehyung found it silly, how he held a cartoon of chocolate milk at such high importance. Stupid Jungkook, couldn't he have dropped something rare on him, like an exotic candy.
Everywhere Taehyung went, he saw cartoons of milk being sold. His school, the streets of his hometown. It was driving him insane.
That stupid box brought back memories of sweet smiles, caring touches and innocent promises.
This continued throughout high school. Jungkook and Taehyung stopped crossing paths. Taehyung had his own friends, Jungkook had his.
Taehyung grew to be a fine man. His chubby baby fat melted into a toned body. His once semi-pale skin tanned under hours of playing soccer underneath the sun. Taehyung rose on the high school ladder. He went from lonely nerd, to normal student to a glorified jock.
Taehyung still kept to himself but this only caused more girls to be interested in his 'silent charms'.
Taehyung was sick of it all.
Until his junior year.
The year started out as normal. Jungkook ignoring him. Taehyung focusing on his studies and soccer so he didn't have time to be hurt.
The girls that Jungkook went through.
The soccer balls that Taehyung went through.
