It was late August when the world had changed for the young Griffin Skye. Only recently had he discovered the death of his uncle who had grown distant throughout the course of 7 years. Griffin had received a summons to attend the funeral of his uncle that was to be hosted inside of his stately manor.

The summons had read "It is with my condolences that I am to report to you the death of Howard Skye. He met his end in a hunting mishap after having an encounter with a bear. The funeral is to be in his estate on 451 Mournegrove on the date of August, 27 of this year.
-- Constance Syke"

After discovering the death of his uncle, Griffin decided it best to arrive a few days early. Griffin was never particularly close to his uncle. This was due to the fact that he was prone to enter into fits of rage when those around him mentioned his peculiar absence from the manor at night.

Griffin had arrived in the small town of Briarstone on the 24 of August. Briarstone was bleak, an arid oasis, the only appeal being that it was rich with oil. It was his uncle who capitalized on the oil industry before it truly boomed into a widespread product.

The people of Briarstone lived in poverty, wearing the same pair of clothes year round, being everpresently painted in a thin layer of dust, and reeking of a foul stench. They were a paranoid people, never trusting of the outside world.
