Goodnight

Birds chirped around the two as they both sat at the stump of a big oak tree. The sun gazed down on them, as if caressing them with a blanket of sunlight.

It was peaceful, the air humming with peaceful sounds that drifted people off to a nice nap or to bed. The peace was soon interrupted when one of them spoke.

"I'm tired.," One of them said.

"I am too.," The other replied.

As they said this they lifted one of their sleeves to look at their marks.

One looked at the other. The other doing the same both had let out a contented sigh.

"We sure had a good run eh." One had said looking at the other.

"Yeah, you know what, we did." The other replied looking back.

Once again it was silent but not the awkward kind of silent but the peaceful one.

"Hey... I have an idea." One spoke, " let's say goodnight to each other like when we were little."

"That sounds about right, but instead let's both do it on three.," The other replied.

"Ok."

"One."

"Two."

They both put their pistols to each ones head.

They were in an old barn that had creaking wood floorboards and broken stables. The whole place smelled of rotten and decayed wood and of course the smell of animals. The entrance had been propped with two long wooden boards nailed down across the two entrance doors.

It was the only place they could find that was away from the walkers or at least safe from them.

One looked at the other before giving a peck on the lips to them. They looked at the others eyes and said, "promise me you'll meet me on the other side."

The other looked at them, lip quivering and tears threatening to come out of their eyes.

"....Yeah I promise."

They both smiled at each other.

"Goodnight Mike."

"Goodnight Dandra."

As if on cue in unison they both said three.

The gunshots that came from their pistols echoed through the old run down barn and the slumping sound that soon followed by their bodies slumping to the floorboards.

Each had a smile on their face.
