A little orphan boy, born with white hair and fair skin walks the halls of the mausoleum avoiding his training sessions until an elder finds him.
"Elder, why do we worship the sun so much?" The little boy asked.
"Because the sun gives life to the world, Troy, and so we shall return the favour by protecting the sun and the faith, no matter the cost," answered the elder.
"Oh, okay. What about the moon?"Troy questioned. No doubt thinking of what lies beyond the Dark Woods.
"Do not speak of such heresy in these walls, you will bring shame upon your lips!" the elder said.
"But, I ... Was just..."
"We do not meddle with those enemies of the sun, now go back to your training!"
"Do they have to be enemies? What if..."
"I have had enough of your talk! You were raised here in the absence of your parents and yet, you disobey us. You will become a Solari one day, and on that day there will be no talk of the moon or any other light. Do you understand?" The elder cried.
"Yes, elder. I understand," Troy bit back tears.
"Good. Matt is waiting for you at the green training courts. Do not keep him waiting."
"I won't, sir,"
"Now there's a good boy,"

-Twelve Years Later-
"Hey you zoned out on me again." Matt said.
"Hnn, what?" I replied.
"Get your head out of the clouds, you're worse than Mikhaela." He smiled. Don't compare me to that hooker.
"Yeah, I've been... Out of it, I guess,"
"That might be the biggest understatement I've heard from you," he smirks. What an arse.
"Um rude. Can we like, focus on getting back now, before you know, a beast comes and finds us? I feel so vulnerable on the forest floor."
Here, in the Dark Woods, the trees are about five times taller than the tallest conifer I could find and about three times thicker. And right now the canopy of the trees block all the light in the world.
"Yeah right, no beast would come out during the day," he jokes.
"Of all the times we've gone through the forest, this is the farthest we've gone and the longest we've been in here, not only that but we left at evening!" I cried.
"Aww, don't tell me you're afraid of the-" he didn't get to finish his sentence as a loud cracking noise caught our attention.
One glance at each other and we took our daggers out and started climbing the nearest tree. We stopped once high enough to perch on a thick branch and survey the surrounding. A large white creature, unlike any we've seen before, ran across the forest floor. As skilled as we both were, we both knew we were no match for the hulking beast.
"Look at what your loud mouth just summoned!" He whisper-yelled. "Do you know what it is?"
"I have no clue-"
"And yet you're the one who spends all their time in libraries searching for who knows what and you haven't come across a creature such as this!"
"Hey I look for the truth, not wildlife," he's really being a dick right now.
"Maybe you should've read more before we started this habit." It's also our way of forgetting our responsibilities and releasing stress. But no, act like an Aries.
"Maybe we wouldn't be in this situation if we stayed in the trees or I don't know went back home immediately!" I countered. "Do you at least know where the way back is?"
He points behind me with a finger to the lips and his eyes glanced beneath him. One gesture made me look down to see the creature still, right beneath us. From here we can see it's sharp claws, glowing white eyes and it's white coat that seems to move on its own accord, moving rhythmically with its growls, ignoring the lack of a breeze.
'Come on,' I signal. He just shakes his head no.
'Why not?' I sign.
"You f***ing know why!"he whispers.
Oh crap, forgot about that. He's not too comfortable with his 'balancing skills' I inwardly laugh. And he scowls fully knowing what I did.
"Fine," I whisper back, "Don't make this romantic but just look in my eyes, my deep silver eyes."
"Not. Helping," he grit out. I took his hands and slowly led him from branch to branch, going at his pace, looking back and forth to see his face. It's a lot more handsome when he shows his emotions instead of anchoring himself in his sea of emotions. Even if it is just fear.
"Um, might wanna pick up the pace there just a little bit, Matt."
"You know not to rush a fixed sign, Cancer!" Oh he's all business now. Well fine then.
"Oh okay, I'll just not tell you that the beast just started to climb a tree,"
"You better not be kidding me,"
"Would I really make you do something out of your comfort zone if it wouldn't matter to you?" Get it through your mind I'm not here to hurt you. Is what I would've added. Bit too romantic.
Holy crap I see... Moonlight? Were we out that long? Oh he's gotten me in trouble again. An apologetic look crosses his face as he sees why I'm glaring at him now. You better. On my important day. I quickly replaced my emotions with a cheery one, to not make him feel bad. Just another tree and then we can make a runner.
I look back, not seeing the creature. "Okay we can run on the floor now, it isn't in my sights,"
"I don't know if that's a good thing, you're not exactly known for having the best eyesight." He said as we scaled down the tree.
"What nerve! Come on let's run before the beast sees us again.
"loser has to explain to the elder," he yells as he takes off.
"Maaattttt!"
