Water.
The liquid, that if you think about it, you can't feel at all. Like you're floating in a vast of infinite, multicolored, space. Unless you need to come up for air but fortunately, I don't, considering i'm part fish.
Yep, you heard that right, fish. But I prefer the term mermaid even though historically/folklore wise I'm a Sabawaelnu, but more on that later. Right now I'm here to tell you about my trip, but not first, swim in the La Push ocean near the cliffs.
I mention the cliffs because right now there is a kid about to jump off them.
Earlier that day
"No, Seth you can't come with us, you know that" Seth frowned as he was, once again rejected by Sam as he and his friends run off to do whatever it is they do all the time. "Besides, jumping off cliffs." he thought, hanging his head sorrowfully. Sam had pitted the poor dude, if only he knew what they did wasn't all fun and games maybe he wouldn't be sorry eager to grow up.
"Look bud, you'll be able to one day." Sam said as he clamped his gigantic hand on Seth's teen sized shoulder. "Just not today."he gave promise like he did ever time.
"Sure." was all the kid mumbled in response as he dragged himself back to the kitchen where Sam's wife, Emily, was. She and Sam exchanged a knowing look as she welcomed the boy in. "Come on Seth, you can help me make some muffins for your brothers." Seth reluctantly nodded as he stepped into the kitchen.
A few hours later, he was able to sneak off after Emily came to rest on the couch, curled up to a magazine as she hummed to herself, flipping through it. Looking his shoulder one last time as he snuck out the door.
He walked along the grounds of La Push still mad, but more upset, at the fact he still can't hangout with Sam and his friends. Sure he was young, but he would of thought almost being fifteen would mean it was time to start letting him hang around more than just seeing them at dinner when Emily invited him along.
"This sucks." he gruffed as he kicked a rock down the road with his foot. He turned his head when he heard a splash in the distance and saw none other than the group of older boys that previous turned him down earlier that day, jumping off the black sheer cliff of the beach.
"Really!?! They said I couldn't come hangout because they were too busy flinging themselves off some stupid cliffs. Hell, I could do that."
That's when the light bulb went off in his head.
Present
I stared curiously wondering what the by was doing by himself. Usually when the russet skinned boys of the reserve did this, there was usually a group. I know this because I have to stay farther away so they wouldn't see me on the cliff, or accidentally in the water.
Taking a risk, I swam a bit closer, still racking my brain for identification of this kid. I knew all the name off the guys who jumped since that's all they scream, urging each other to go first, or to go higher, or to add in a flip,or something stupid that would risk their lives even more. They must be made of some tough stuff I tell you.
But this boy wasn't part of that group. He wasn't as muscular, more on the lean side. Plus he looked way too young, more around my age. I'd guessed fourteen, fifteenish give or take.
An uneasy feeling started to grow in me as I start to realize
A) He's alone
B) Never once seen him before, (on the cliff that is) meaning he's probably never done this before
C) Even more, he looks scared as hell.
Still, I decide to watch how this will turn out. I wiped away the thought of him being suicidal, he wasn't high up enough for that, and plus there were cliffs with much sharper rocks along the bottom than this beach.
He looks down at the churning water, and gulps. With shaking hands he starts to unzip his jacket as he shrugs it off his shoulders. Next, he pulled his shirt over his head to reveal a toned, but six packless stomach.
Last was his shoes. When he was done, he walked to the edge of the cliff.
Looking down, he shakes his hands, while nodding his head ,and rubbed them together before making up his mind and stepping off the edge into the murky waters below.
I anxiously waited as I watched the spot of sizzling bubbles, left over from his splash.
Its been about five seconds since his landing and I was already starting to become worried, "It's okay Bianca, it hasn't been long. Give him some more time." I tried to reassure myself
Ten seconds
Fifteen seconds
Twenty seconds
Twenty fiv-
"That's it."
I dove under water and swam fast over near the rocks. I don't care if this guy was on the swim team at his school, he should of been up by now.
I search the brown water for sign of this kid. Thanks to my special eyes, floating filth and algae weren't a problem to see through as it clouded the water.
There.
I spotted him, looking unconscious, near the side of the cliff. His arms were floating aimlessly in the water, going with the flow, literally. I flicked my tail up in order to send my body down as I grabbed one of his arms, and with a swish of my tail we were off.
Once we reached the shallow part of the water I scanned the area for any sign of human life. Seeing the coast was clear, I watched as my tail melted away and was replaced by a pair of tan naked legs.
I stood up, slightly shivering as the beach's cool breeze brushed against my bare body.
Yes, bare.
You see, I can't transform in anything covering my legs or they get ripped, and as for my torso, it's really hard swimming underwater in a T-shirt.
Silently praying there wasn't anyone hiding who may of saw my growing of legs, or, you know, exposed body. I gave a flick of my wrist and had the ocean send a wave to push him as far onto land as possible. Then I proceeded to grab the boy from under the armpits, and drag him to shore.
I quickly asses that he is indeed unconscious and immediately start to give CPR. Not knowing how much water had gotten into his system before I found him,I started pumping his chest. But pumping his chest wasn't enough a I had no response from him.
Pinching his nose and opening his mouth, I put my cover his mouth with my own and blow air. I alternate between the two until, about the third round his eyelashes start to flutter.
I knew that was my cue to leave but I decided to stay for a second longer as his eyes began to open.
His chocolate eyes stared into my green, "Who are you?" he croaked.
I smiled at that being the first thing he wondered. Not "What happended?" or "How did I get here?". No, it was wondering who his rescuer was and I found that adorable.
I pat his cheek, "Just call me your Water Angel." I gave a quick laugh as I started to head back right as he began to cough up the water stuck in his throat.
I dove in just as he sat up, feeling my legs mend together to form my sleek tail. I swam out and hid among the waves as he scoured them with his eyes. Then, giving up possibility he frantically looked around for sign of life, only to find he beach empty. Minus the panicked russett boys that always jump off the cliff, were now running full speed toward the almost drowned boy.
I gave one last look and swam off.
