For years and years farther than anyone can remember, the lives of every person in America has been under control by the government. From the day we are born, we are given a spouse (The Pairing) and a "Child Partner" or what we like to call a CP. Your CP is the person whos child will marry your own offspring. The day you are born, your CP is revealed and if you are like my CP and I you will get along perfecty. It's not until the last day of the 7th year of school that your spouse will finally be revealed. You and your Pair will marry and will be required to have only one child.The boys and girls will go to different schools and no boy or girl will ever interact before the 7th year for fear of attraction to each other. If a person has the wrong gender child they will all be put to death because they no longer have a roll in society. It is a universal thought that the government never makes mistakes with the Pairing. I am Camden Chandler and I believe the government makes mistakes.
Part one:
"Camden honey today's the big day!!" My mother almost screams as she shakes me awake. Now that its the last day of the 7th grade I am going to meet and marry my spouse. "I know it's a little bit earlier than you would nomally wake up but I wanted to do your hair nicely." She exclaims. My mother is a typical person who has always belived in The Pairing. Her and my father immediately clicked and have never had a question that their marriage was perfectly picked. "I'll be right there mother just let me wake up a little bit please!" I say as i beckon her to get out of my room. I jump out of bed and immedeately text Rhiannon. Rhiannon Alexander is my best friend and my CP. I think we woulfd have been friends even if we werent eachothers CP's but because her mother and my mother wanted us to become friends, that was a large influence on it. "Todays the day.. weird to think both of our husbands have been CP's together and now we get to meet them both" I text slowly as I'm still trying to wake up. I look at the outfit my mother layed out for the big day and immediately throw it into the depths of my closet. It was the hideous dress that she bought me at one of the stores she shops at. I throw on a black skirt, my favorite white tshirt, a pink sweater, a cute necklace, and throw on my white converse. "Much better" I think to myself.
I walk downstairs and immediately see the dissaproval on my mother's face. "Why on earth would you wear that instead of the gorgeous and not to mention expensive dress i bought you?" She tries to say calmly because she knows that this is my day. "It was hideous mother you have to realize that." I respond "I should get to pick my outfit! It is my day isnt it?" She responds with a loud sigh that shows me that I've just won that argument. Now I have to do my hair and so I curl it and braid one section back, something easy but still noticeable. I grab a banana and my school bag and try to walk out the door, to my mother today is a much bigger deal than it is to me and so she stops me. "Honey we need to talk!" She says "Fine, but make it quick." I reply. "I just want you to know that I'm so proud of you and that you are going to make an amazing wife to whoever your Pair is. I will see you tonight at The Pairing House. I love you" She almosts starts to cry as she says this. I plant a kiss on her cheek and walk out the door. As I do this I realize how truly scared and nervous I am! I haven't seen a boy other than my father, Rhiannons father, and my fathers CP since the day I was born. As I'm thinking of Rhiannon's father i remember to check my phone to see if she has texted me back. All she responded was "I know. Look cute." so I know I didn't miss too much. Every house with a girl child surrounds the girls school and the same with the boy children and their school so we all just walk. By the time I reach the school I am so nervous I could barf.
I walk into the school and see the 7th year wing. I walk in to find Rhiannon but it is pure chaos and all the teachers are squirming around telling all of us to go to the auditorium. I find my way there and see that Rhiannon has already saved me a spot. I go and sit next to eachother and we begin to talk to try and calm our nerves. "I can't believe todays the day! What time do you think the boys will get here?" It is a tradition for the boys to travel to the girls school because it symbolizes that a man should do anything for his wife. The boys will come in and sit on the other side of the gym. The Pairing Announcer will call up us girls one at a time in alphabetical order and we will be blindfolded. The announcer will call off the name of our pair and he will come up and hold our hand. The blindfold is then taken off and we will meet eachother and see eachother for the first time. We will say the pairing vow and go into the "Pair room" No one that hasnt been paired knows whats back there because you are to never speak of it. "I'm not sure." I reply "Hopefully soon".
As if right on queue the double doors open and all the boys walk in a single file line to sit in the chairs on the other side of the room. I see all kinds of boys. One is even in a wheel chair! I am immediately drawn to look at some of the boys that I guess would be considered attractive. They waste no time with this and the ceremony starts right away. We start with A and so Sasha Aderdale goes first. She gets paired with a boy named Zander Cloger who was at least 6 inches shorter than her. It doesn't matter though, the government never makes mistakes. Next is Rhiannon. I am so scared for her but she seems totally relaxed. She goes up and gest paired with a semi attractive boy named Christoper Karty and I see them together and immediately know they will be happy. Girls and girls go by, but my last name is only the third letter so theres still so many girls after mine. Finally I get called to the stage and and I am blindfolded. I think I could faint. A few years ago a girl did and they had to stop the whole ceremony just for her! My heart beats faster than it ever has. I think im going to cry or faint or scream its all too much pressure this is the person I'm spending the rest of my life with! I quiet all the thoughts in my head just enough to hear the man say "Camden Chandler, your pairing is Brysin Marchester".
