“How can this happen? How could it be him?” Ginny paces back and forth.

I lean back against the grass, heartbroken that we’re talking about Harry again. Then again, she can’t possibly know that. She doesn’t know that every time she mentions him it hurts me. Instead of wallowing in my own self-pity, I decide to respond.

“I don’t know, but I’m sure he didn’t put his name in that cup. It had to have been someone else.” I sigh.

“But who? Who would want to have him killed?”

“I don’t know. We do have two former death eaters here at school.”

“Really?”

“Yes.”

“Who?”

“The Durmstrang headmaster and Professor Snape.”

“Snape?”

“Yes.”

“Oh.”

Ginny falls down beside me with a huff. I roll on my side to face her. She does the same. Again, I’m held captive by those bright brown eyes. With a bit of confusion, I realize they’re coming closer. There’s only an inch between us now.

“Jake?” Ginny breathes.

I inhale the smell of her perfume and am sent into a state of ecstasy. This girl will end up killing me if she chooses him. Honestly, I don’t think I can take it if she walks away. We’re this close and I don’t want this night to end. Right now I’m as happy as I’ve been in a long time.

“Yes?” I half-smile.

“I need to tell you something…”

“Yes?”

“I don’t know how to say this…”

“What is it?”

“I can’t…”

“Ginny…”

I’m cut off as Ginny closes the distance between us and crashes her lips to mine. The kiss is soft, but filled with overwhelming passion. I wrap my arms around her and pull her closer. Ginny winds her fingers into my hair. We’re still tangled up in each other when a voice rings out.

“GINNY?!”
