Chapter 10 (Jillian's POV)
I turned around to see where the screaming was coming from. Behind me a large group of girls, all around my age, had gathered by the theatre entrance. I tried to push my way through the crowd to see what they were looking at, but I couldn't get through. To my left I noticed a small ladder that was obviously used to change the posters. I climbed up it and as I looked down, right in the center of the crowd there he was. 'Of course' I thought to myself and sighed. Seeing him again made my heart stop. Girls were pushing their way through to him screaming for autographs, their cameras at the ready. I saw Big Rob and two other men holding the crowd back so Nick had some personal space. He waved to the crowd and touched some hands as he walked forward. He looked around and as he did, he caught sight of me. His eyes locked on mine for a moment and then once again he turned away.
He continued to make his way through the crowd to reach the car that awaited him. I got down from the ladder, disappointed again. I felt let down. I thought that day was special. The car pulled away with Nick inside it and with the car, the screaming girls followed.
I stood there alone in the darkness. I shivered at the breeze of the wind. I pulled on my thin navy cardigan to warm my arms up but it was no use. I stayed still for a while, feeling the pain inside me and then I began to walk towards the tube station, my arms crossed around my body to keep the warmth in, or to keep my heart from breaking, I wasn't quite sure which. I know I sound like a love struck teenage who was over reacting. I'm not stupid enough to think I'm in love with a guy after knowing him one day, but I was sure that had been SOMETHING between us, whatever that may have been.
"Jillian!" I heard a familiar voice shout behind me. I heard someone running to catch up with me. I turned around to see Nick. He was breathless. He stood there panting with his hands out in front of him. We stood still for a moment and stared at each other. "Jillian?" he repeated hesitantly and he slowly began to walk closer to me. By now there was only a couple of meters between us.
"What Nick?" I responded in the coolest voice I could manage.
"Well.. you know. Your here. I was hoping we could.." he shrugged his shoulders. "..hang out?" He waited. "If you don't have anywhere to go or-"
"What now I'm alone? Now nobody would see me with you?" I said trying to keep my voice under control. All I wanted to do was run in to his open arms.
"What Jillian?" he said shocked.
"You heard me Nick." I sighed as I looked into his eyes.
He walked towards me. Suddenly he was inches from my face. I could feel his breath on the top of my head. I looked up and into his deep brown eyes. I lost my breath.
"You think I didn't come and say hi to you because I didn't want people to see us together?" he whispered.
"Well.." his soothing voice had given me butterflies. "it certainly looked like that." I eventually managed looking down.
"No, never. If I could have got to you I would of, but I don't want the media to make a mess of your life. Or.. us." he added quietly.
"Us?" I held my breath to wait for his response.
"Jillian, I may not know everything about you, but I would like to get to know you. I really enjoyed last week and when I saw you tonight I just thought maybe there was some hope for us." He paused. "Well what do you say?" He lent down to my level trying to look in my eyes.
"So how did you escape from the screaming fans?" I joked.
"Is that a yes he said?" speaking a little bit more confident now.
"Yes." I smiled at him.
I lent my head on his body as I gave him a hug which he returned. It didn't last very long though, he pulled back after a couple of seconds but still it was an improvement, and we did hardly know each other. He started to walk away and nodded for me to come with him. He led me back into the theatre and through a side door which led to a back street where a taxi was waiting. I raised my eyebrows as he held the taxi door open for me.
"The other car was a diversion that led back to my 'hotel'." He winked at me. "We of course are going back to my flat."
