*Prologue*

She quickly raced down the field, the child on her back. Her red dress was now tattered at the rim, fabric pieces flied around her feet frantically as she ran faster and faster, the fire inched closer by the minutes... Seconds... She reached out for something, but she loses it. Looking behind her and the child, the fire gave them a crackling warning that they will be next too. "Please! Someone help!" She heard a distant cry, but she couldn't help them now. The roar of The Inferno, as they call it, was deadly and very threatening.

Faster, she leaped over a fallen tree; the girl bobbed up and down on her back. Her feet seem to be working by themselves, no longer was she having to remind them every three seconds that she may die if they give out, now they just knew. She turned to the west side, near the ocean, from the fire. Most people were trying to hit high land, but not her, she was smarter than the rest. Being an engineer had helped her most of her life, and now it was helping keep her alive. Her brain was more powerful, something her daughter, Karter Stockinngs, had as a gene, too.

Her husband was long gone, died before the fire even expanded from the TNT detonation. She had cried for hours with her daughter before it broke out, but not now. Now, she was running for her life.

She saw a beam of light break through the night's shadowy cast. A glitter, a glitter of water. She ran out into the water, letting her burning skin soak. Her child pushed under the waves, cleaning off her dirty face. The girl was only eight, she wouldn't understand what had happened now, not at that age. Maybe when she was older, when her mother could explain the story, but would she still understand why the controller had set this up. To destroy the town and people and rebuild?

Guess she would have to see.
