Dealing with the Customer

"Lisa, there's a table that needs to be cleaned!" Amber yells out as she was working on the register.

I yank out my earphones "I'm on it!" I put down the plate I was scrubbing and took off my gloves. I quickly grabbed the cart to put the dirty dishes in. As I head toward a table, I hear a group of what it seemed of teenagers being so loud in the corner of the restaurant making their way out. I ignore them putting back my earphones and continue listening to some of Drake's songs. As I was emptying the plates I noticed that the customer didn't eat much.

"What a waste. " I whisper to myself.

As I was finishing emptying the last plate and placing it into the cart, a huge hand grabs my wrist and yanks me hard to face them making my earphones fall off my ears.

"What are you doing! I paid for that meal and you just threw it away!" a huge man screams at me. It looks like he was having a bad day and I just made it worse.

     "Sorry, I th-"

"Your sorriness isn't going to make my day any better!" he grips my hand harder making me screech. He puts his hand up to slap me leaving me in shock and crunch my body. As I wait for the powerful hit to knock me out, I take a peek because of the long pause.

"You think you can lay your hands on my girlfriend?" an unfamiliar voice barks through the black mouth mask.
I glance up at the hand with a green diamond eye snake ring grabbing the angry customer's hand firmly. The customer shrieks from pain letting go of my hand, and the tall guy pushes him harshly on a chair.
"Let us call this sweet talk since I'll pay you back the meal you lost!" the mysterious guy snaps at him.

Amber and George grab my arm from both sides and take me back to the register. Amber quickly grabs ice.

"Here put this on your wrist." Amber hands me the ice. "Sorry for what happened. I should have been more specific to what table I wanted you to clean."  Amber is just that sweet girl that smiles to everyone. No wonder the manager put her up for the register. She made me feel so welcomed when I first got this job a year ago. Part-job specifically. I'm just a part-timer since I still go to college.

"No, It's not your fault. I wasn't focusing this whole day."

"Are you okay?" George asks. George and I are like strangers. He is that type of guy that just doesn't like talking to his co-workers. The only time I only hear him speaking is when he's getting orders from the customers.

"I'm fine." I put down the ice and look back at the at the customer calmed down eating the food that was served.  "I have to go finish cleaning the tables."

"Wait no," Amber grabs my hand. "THAT customer is still there." She whispers.

"He is too busy eating, and he looks like he calmed down already."

"Calmed down?" Amber gulps. "He looks like he is chewing his anger out on that piece of meat!"

"The tables won't be cleaned by themselves. " I reply taking her grip off my hand.

"Okay, let me at least help you." She gives in following me.

The cart is still there so we calmly walk pass the customer. I have to admit I am a little scared. His scars on his face had stories behind them and they aren't good ones.  The cart soon gets full of dishes, and Amber takes it to the kitchen area to unload it. While I was scrubbing the table, that same customer starts to call me over.

"AYE Asian girl! I'm done now, you can clean my table." He yells deeply.

I ignore him acting like I'm scrubbing some stain on the table that won't come off hoping that Amber will show up any time now. I feel a hand on my shoulder and it was surely not Amber.

"You guys have sucky ass customer service!" I turn around facing a huge hand flying straight to my face. It brings me hard to the ground and leaves me lying there. My hands are shaking trying to keep me sitting up. As I stay there staring at the floor, someone wearing tight light blue jeans and black converse runs toward the customer.  Amber finally comes in. I look at her moving lips and facial expressions. She seems scared and hugs me. I see more feet running in then dragging someone out. Amber grabs my right shoulder and puts an ice pack on my face with her other hand. I never felt something so soothing on my face in my life like this.

"LISA! Please talk to me! Say something!"  She weeps.

     "Uh-yah?" I manage to speak.

"Oh my gosh. Please. Stay here. Put your back against the wall; I'll get you water." She says wiping her tears as she turned around and ran.  I sigh looking down and spot a small shiny object next to my feet. I managed to stretch my hand for it. It's a ring. The same ring I saw on that mysterious guy's finger. But why is it here? Amber comes back, and I quickly close my palm.

She helps me drink. "I called the cops once he started to yell at you because I knew he wasn't going to leave you alone. I guess I couldn't really save you, but someone came out of nowhere and kicked his ass. His friends came breaking the fight and took the guy out. The cops are dealing with guys." Once she said that the restaurant door opens and a police man comes in with a notepad.

The restaurant was closed two hours early and Amber takes me to my apartment. The manager gave me a week off. I argued back telling I couldn't afford to lose a week of work, but he finally said I'll still get paid.

I enter my apartment to go face reality. My face. I go to the restroom mirror and see my cheek red and a little swollen.

"Why my face?!" I groan. "I should have looked in the mirror before letting him go without charges!" My mom did tell me I'm too kind to people and quickly forgive them, and she's right.

The remembrance of my mom makes me flop down on my bed. It was the hardest decision to do. To leave my mom alone and go live with my uncle in America, so I can learn English and live a better life. I had to leave my best friend and my school friends and just everyone. Funny thing is that I lived with an uncle that always came home drunk, and I always stayed in my room locked. I worked hard studying with lots of part-time jobs during my two years in high school. I graduated last year, and once I graduated, I moved straight to LA to wear my college is and rented an apartment. When I started college, my best friend called me telling me my mom is sick. I would try my best to send money to my mom in South Korea since she only has me to take care of her. My father died in a car accident when I was 7 years old. I don't remember much of my dad since all of his life he would just work. The recent news I got during my summer break about my mom was that she was getting better, but it's not like I never heard that news before.  She would suddenly become sick after a couple of days.

I get up off my bed and shower to sleep early. I wore my PJs and throw my worn clothes to the corner of my room and hear a metallic noise hit the floor. I walk to my clothes shaking them to find a ring. The snake ring.
