"I-I love you." Rose stammered.
I feel my hearts shattering into a million pieces. I want to grab her, pull her into my arms and hold her forevermore.
I'm still just an image.
If only... If only I could hold her one last time...
If only I could feel her hand in mine...
Oh Rose, if only...
"Quite right, too. And I suppose, if it's one last chance to say it, Rose Tyler-"
The projection cuts out and the tiny crack in the universe seals up. Rose is gone.
"I love you..." I whisper to no one.
As tear rolls down my face and drops onto the floor, the TARDIS makes a groaning sound as if she is crying too.
I bow my head for a few minutes, stifle a sob as I grasp the air, lift my head and walk over the controls, flick the switches and turn the dials.
Same old life, last of the Timelords... All alone.
I throw myself on to the battered up seats of the TARDIS and cry into my hands. I remember all the times we had with each other.
The time I grabbed her hand and whispered "Run".
The time we fought off the actual devil! She gave me hope.
The time she was powerful enough to absorb the time vortex... God, she's amazing.
When we visited New Earth... When Rose, well not really Rose, kissed me. That day... Sparks were flying through my body at a million miles per hour.
Oh how I long to kiss her, hug her, hold her.
We spent countless amazing days together, hand in hand, adventures waiting wherever we stepped foot.
I would do anything to get that back... Anything.
No. I need to stop. She deserves a life that I cannot give to her. I can't grow old with her. I can't be there for her the way another human man could be. I just can't and I need to face the truth.
I pull down the lever on the TARDIS, hearing the familiar whooshing sound...
Next stop: Missing Rose Tyler.
