(Author's Note: Hey guys! If you haven't read the chapter Engel you should do that now, or right after reading this one, because this chapter is a Prequel to it! I felt like Engel was a little too short, and I never elaborated too much on their lives, just on the story. I usually always elaborate though. So while thinking of ideas for new chapters, I thought huh, let's make Frühling in Paris the prequel to Engel.)
He fell to the ground, he couldn't take it anymore, life without her. Really, he had seen it coming. She wasn't the kind of girl who remained faithful to her partners, but she was a beautiful and kind waitress, skilled at her job amongst other things. Could anyone really blame him for falling in love? And he didn't regret a moment of it. Their love had been sweet, strong, yet he knew that her lust was too much for him. He was always one to enjoy sex, enjoy lust, but that was all that she had wanted from him. He wanted not just the sexual benefits, but the love. Schneider had warned him about her, and he was unfortunate enough to not listen to his friend. He didn't even notice that he wasn't alone.
"She must have been beautiful." Till looked up in surprise. A tall man with longer hair and glasses hovered over him. Looking into his eyes, they were bright blue with golden glowing flecks in them. It was hard to tell in the night, but Till had pretty good eyesight.
"How...how did you know?"
"I know a heartbreak when I see one. Would you care to walk with me?" He asked, outstretching his hand to Till. Till looked up at him curiously and took it.
"Who are you?"
"That it not important. I will say this, sometimes parting with one is better than staying together. For better or for worse, you must look for the silver lining. Tell me your story." He said wisely, starting to walk. Till followed him.
"She...I was on a business trip to Paris, our annual spring trip. My friend Schneider and I, from work, we went out to eat, tired of sitting in a meeting room and eating catered food. That's when I saw her. We talked, and from the start I could tell that she...wasn't..." He tried holding it in, but failed. The stranger put a hand on his back and soothed him. Till was glad of the kindness of strangers currently, though he had no idea why he was confiding in him.
"She wasn't faithful. A cheater. I understand."
"Yeah...we started going out though...long story short, I met her one night, and she was with her new boyfriend. He punched me, left me bleeding out on the cement, in the cold spring night." He sighed, letting a tear fall down his face.
"Der Frühling blutet in Paris." The stranger said, whipping away Till's tear. Till looked at the stranger in surprise again.
"Who are you...what are you?" Till asked, the stranger looked different, his eyes were more golden, feathered wings stretched out behind him. He smiled at Till, the wind blowing through his hair, he started to fade away on the wind.
"Nothing important, just someone sent to stand beside you...Mr. Lindemann." The wind died down, and the stranger was gone, his voice echoing through the empty streets of Berlin. The dark night of Berlin started fading away from his vision.
__________________________________________________________________________________Till's eyes flew open, what was with that dream? Relooking over his dream, he suddenly had a realization. The man in his dreams had been an angel. It had felt comforting to talk about his Frühling in Paris, he had really wanted someone to talk to about it, even if it had been a stranger angel in his dreams. Till shut off his alarm and got dressed in his suit, he didn't even stop for breakfast, not that he usually did these days, not since she had left him. He got in his car and drove through Berlin, the sun rising. Had it really been a dream? It had felt so real. Till couldn't ponder it anymore, he had to get to work. He developed software, and it was either today or tomorrow that he would be getting a partner. He had requested a partner to work with him for at least a year now, his boss and friend Schneider had finally agreed to it, especially seeing how depressed Till was about her. They dared not speak her name. Till only called the woman her or Frühling. He would learn to always hate springtime now, because it reminded him of something he wished he could forget, it was only a month ago, when it had happened. He pulled into the parking lot, trying to shake her of his thoughts. Hopefully the new guy would be coming in today, then he could evaluate his skills and see how well he did developing. Schneider said he had found a good one though, so Till imagined work would become much easier with some help. And who knows, maybe he would even make a new friend. Lindemann swiped his key card, opened the door, and raced up the stairs of the office building and knocked on Schneider's door.
"Who is it? I'm busy."
"Lindemann." Till replied, close to the door. He could almost hear Schneider smiling.
"Ah, Till! Come in, come in." Schneider exclaimed, Till opened the door, and his eyes widened. Someone was sitting in a chair in front of Schneider's desk. The same stranger from his dreams, only now he wore a suit and tie. There were no golden flecks in his blue eyes, and no angel wings to speak of. Till walked over to the chair beside him, and sat down cautiously. What was this?
"Till, this is your new partner, Christian Lorenz. He prefers the nickname Flake though. Flake, this is Till, Lindemann." Schneider said, obviously happy with the arrangement. Till nodded and held out his hand for Lorenz to shake. Hesitantly the other man took his hand. Schneider stood up and opened his office door, waving the two out. They both got up and walked out, Schneider closed the door, and lead them to their desks.
"You two will probably get along. If you need me, you know where I am. And perhaps we'll go for drinks later..." Schneider said, smiling. Mr. Lorenz smiled at this too. Till frowned.
"Schneider, if it's another shitty club, I'm going to kill you." Schneider burst out laughing at this, Flake looked over at Till in surprise. Why is he talking to his boss like this? Is what Till imagined he was thinking.
"Relax, there's a new bar in town I want to check out, and I wouldn't take poor Mr. Lorenz to a club on the first day." Schneider chuckled, waving as he walked away. Till took this opportunity to roll his chair over to Flake and show him what they were working on. Lorenz nodded, understanding everything. Till looked to him almost suspiciously when he was done explaining.
"Are you...nein...have we met before?" Till asked, memories of his dream resurfacing. Flake Lorenz looked at him in utter confusion.
"Nein, I haven't ever seen you until today. Why?"
"You just...I thought I must've seen you somewhere before..." Till couldn't very well explain that he met Mr. Lorenz in a dream.
"Maybe around, but I've never in my years have seen you...by the way...are there any coffee pots around here?" Lorenz asked, and Till himself had a taste for coffee suddenly. Till stood up, nodding.
"Ja, here, come with me, I'll show you where it is." He said, leading his new partner through the maze of cubicles. They came into the lobby over to the coffee pot. Due to the fact their company was an IT company, they had unnecessarily high tech coffee machines. He automatically put on a pot of coffee without really thinking about it, and then remembered Mr. Lorenz.
"Oh, I'm sorry, I can make decaf when it's done if you don't drink it caffeinated..." Till trailed off, when he shook his head.
"The sugar and creamer is in this cupboard if you want it."
"I like my coffee black...just like my metal." He shrugged, Till smiled at this.
"Just the way I like my coffee and my metal. Good deal Mr. Lorenz, we can share music in our cubicle now." Till said, chuckling at the thought of annoying his coworkers with his new partner in their shared cubicle. Mr. Lorenz found it amusing too, and a small smile appeared on his face. He got his mug down from the cupboard, and then recalled something.
"We have a few plain mugs in here, but all the other guys on this floor have their own mugs, so if you could bring one in." Till said, bringing down one of the plain ones, Lorenz nodded at this.
"Tomorrow, ja. I was more worried about bringing a laptop and work binders with me." He said, going to pour his coffee, but Till put his hand up to stop him, and poured both cups.
"Oh, thank you Mr. Lindemann. It was not necessary..."
"Nein, but I suppose it could be a welcome from me." He handed the mug to Mr. Lorenz, who took it gratefully.
