The soft summer breeze blew through the window of my messy room bringing in the smell of fresh flowers. I inhaled deeply and let out a big sigh. What a day was it going to be.I put the last bit of make up on perfectioning my high cheek bones and gave myself a soft smile as I looked in the mirror. The eyeliner made my blue-gray eyes stand out more than they already did and the soft Raven locks that fell down my back gave away a different me.
I'm not used to seeing myself with make up on, nor am I used to fixing my hair this beautifully. You'd usually find me in some jeans, plain shirt or sweaters. That's what I look like most of the days. I don't pay attention to the way I look simply because I don't need to. I mean, I don't get why you have to spend one hour every morning on beauty when you could spend it sleeping.
I got lost in my thoughts until I heard a light knock on the door. Straightening out my white dress I told the person on the other side of the door to come in.
I watched the door open slowly and in came my dad wearing a light grey suit with a white button up underneath. He looked so handsome with his black hair swept backwards and the small white flower in his suits pocket.
He closed the door and walked forward taking his time to look at me from head to toe.
"You look so beautiful pumpkin!" dad said as he placed a kiss on my forehead.
"Thanks dad, you look good too." I replied softly with a smile
"Not so bad for an old man, huh?" My dad said as he tried to act cocky.
That made me laugh "Well a five out of ten, I'd say." My dad fake gasped and pulled at my nose.
"What a rude daughter I've got!" he said, then I saw the look on his face change to a more serious one.
"Thanks for being here Reach. I know this is hard for you but you being present today means a lot to me." My 43 year old father said softly as he looked me in the eyes.
I understand what he meant.
It was kind of hard for me to be here today, on my fathers wedding day. This was the day that my father was getting married again, for the second time, with another woman other than my mom. My mom was diagnosed with a rare disease that touched her brain, her body organs and then... It took her away. I was only ten when that happened and now at seventeen, I am witnessing my dad's love being devoted to another woman, one that wasn't my mother.
I realized I had been silent for too long and wrapped my arms around my dads waist hugging him tightly. I felt his own wrap around my shoulders and embrace me. I pulled back from the hug and looked at my dad.
"It's ok dad, I'm happy to be here. And I'm happy that...you're happy. That's all that matters to me" Ok, maybe the first sentence wasn't completely true but the second part of the statement was. I'm just happy to see him finally getting over my mom's death in some sort of way.
He smiled softly and gave me another hug
"Thank you pumpkin. You know I'll always be there for you. Just because I'm getting married doesn't mean that you're in second plan now. You'll always come first for me, Rachel."
Not knowing how to reply I simply nodded. Hearing someone shout from outside that everything was set, my dad kissed me once more before rushing towards the door.
