"Okay," I still have a little fear of being left alone but I felt better when he promised me that. He left and locked the door again.
I must have fallen asleep at some point, because next thing I know I'm waking up to shouting outside the door. I look around the room for the axe that I had found earlier when I was trying to break down the door. I hold it firmly in my hands and at my side ready to swing. The handle on the door starts turning, the shouting getting louder the further it opens.
"You can't put her in that room. She will die!" the angry sound of Key's voice.
"Please, it's not fair. You know the room hates everyone and it will kill her. That room has done it before." the softer sad sound of Jenna.
"She is obviously not important. She has no power, she isn't even from here. Why should I care?" a new voice, deep and growly. Kind of scary actually.
A man walks in, he is very tall and very big. Angry looking tattoos covering his arms, scars on his face, and obsidian black eyes. He looks down at me and fear shoots through me. He looks like he could kill someone without a second thought or any regret.
"She is to be put in that room and that's final." he glares at Jenna and Key. Key glares right back at him but doesn't say anything. Jenna looks at the floor and starts crying. I just stare at both of them suddenly confused as to how a room can be so dangerous.
"Master, please, don't let her go in there." Jenna says so quietly that I almost thought I was hearing things.
"What did I say? I already said she can work with you two. I have a question for you, do you have powers? No. Are you a Royal? No! So shut up and do as I say. DO YOU UNDERSTAND?!" they both nod quietly, anger burning in both of their eyes. Jenna had stopped crying and now looks like she wants to hit him. Or completely blow him away. The guy called Master storms out the room without another word and Jenna automatically starts planning on disobeying him.
"What if she sleeps in my room and we just never tell him?"
"No. If Master finds out you will be dead, you know that. We can't risk it." Key replies seriously.
"But she can't be in that room!" tears start rolling down her rosy cheeks.
"I know, but we did our best, at least she gets to work with us. If she can stay alive long enough." he says the last part very quietly, but I still hear him.
"Are you done?" I finally speak up. "Cause, you know, I am right here. Listening to you both. Will you please explain what you are talking about?"
"We will explain on our way to where you will be staying." Key says it almost like he is leading me to my death instead of just a room.
"Okaaay." and we walk out of the room.
The hallway is magnificent. Dark red carpets, little tables with an arrangement of flowers on both sides of each door, a mirror between each door, chandeliers for lighting, and rich, deep green wall paper. We start walking left.
"The room you are to be put in, " Key starts, tone serious and flat, " is enchanted. The one that is enchanted to that room doesn't care for anyone. No one even knows if that room is female or male. No one has been able to stay in it long enough to figure that out. The last few that had been put in that room had been killed. That is just some of the reasons why we don't want you to go there, but we have no choice. I'm so sorry." there is a sadness in his eyes that he tried to hide by putting on a blank look, staring straight ahead.
We walk the rest of the way in silence. The hallway getting darker the further we go. Suddenly Key and Jenna turn right, and I follow behind. We continue walking down this dim hallway. The carpet is stained with something that looks similar to dried blood, the wall paper worn out and torn in some spots, tables tipped over and the mirrors are either broken or completely missing. The ceiling is cracking and even broken in places. The air has a feeling of someone watching me, a cool, calm quiet that is perfect for hunting prey in. I avoid looking in the mirror for fear I would see another reflection other than my own.
We walk to the very end of the hall, by now it is so dim that we have to squint to see. The wall in front of us looks like it had been burnt black, the smell is awful, like something rotting. We turn to the left where a large brooding door faces us, uninviting. It looks like it had a fight with an axe, or some kind of large animal, but I try not to think of that. The door has an almost grey-brown colour to it from being discoloured from age. The feeling of power emanates from not the door, but from what is behind it, making me nervous. Making me wonder if this is the last time I will ever be able to talk or see these people ever again. Suddenly the idea of sneaking into Jenna's room doesn't sound so bad. Key opens the door wide and motions me to go in.
"Aren't you coming in?" I feel my face go pale, and hear my voice become squeaky as fear tears through me. Key just nods his head as Jenna backs away, looking as terrified as I feel. I clear my throat and bravely take a step forward, crossing the threshold into the darkness of the room. I reach to the right of me and find a light switch, but when I tried it nothing happened. I looked back at Key, and he threw me a flashlight and a new light bulb. As I turn the flashlight on and spin around to walk further into the room I hear the door slam shut behind me. A shout of worry comes from Key as well as a scream from Jenna. Terror shoots through me making me go cold and paralyzed with fear.
