"DUCK, Linh!" Gray shouted from somewhere on the battlefield.
I did, and a large chunk of the ground flew by, drizzling dirt all over me as it went. The damned mage we were to capture wanted to kill us. As I met the guy's feral red eyes, he grinned and his body began to change. His hair went from dark blue to long, raging red and silky. The kind face he sported was feminine and something I saw only in my dreams.
"Mo-mother? Mum?" I asked.
The fake Silvia Foster nodded and opened her arms.
"Yes, come to me, Linh, darling."
In a trance I rushed towards the mage ready to be pulled into my late mother's warm embrace when Natsu shouted.
"Fire Dragon Wing Attack!"
I jumped in front of the spell without a second thought. The mage behind me returned to his original form and chuckled,
"Thanks, darling, I'll be leaving now."
And he disappeared into the shadows. I inwardly shamed myself at how easily I had been duped, when Natsu's powerful blast hit me full on. I bit my tongue to keep from crying out, as the intense heat seemed to melt my body. Then I did the only normal thing- fainted.
"Linh. Jaylinh, wake up."
"Gr- Gray?" I mumbled, trying to sit up.
Opening my eyes I found a wild ginger, Loke.
"Do I look like that stripper to you?" He pouted.
Flushing red, I apologized.
"So-sorry, Loke. Where am I?"
"Guild. Sickbed." I nodded, trying to ease my blaring headache when Natsu decided to bang on the door.
"Come in." Loke told him, then up and disappeared, leaving us alone.
"Hey, Jay, how ya feeling?"
"Okay, I guess."
He nodded, then heaved a big sigh. I gave him a funny look.
"Now's probably not the best time, but... you've been kicked off of the Team, Jaylinh."
I blanched.
"Wh- what?" I asked weakly, trembling.
"Nothing personal, it's just that we lost the bad guy, again. And it was because of you. You're getting in the way of our missions and we aren't making money. You're just too weak to handle the stress that comes with being part of the most powerful team in Fairy Tail."
I was shocked partially because I had been kicked off the team, partially because Natsu could speak something other than food complaints and insults. But the funny thing is, I wasn't sad. I was angry. I looked down and away from him, as I felt my face heat up and furious tears rolling down my cheeks.
I pulled myself out of bed and a furious Loke reappeared, attempting to push me back down.
"Princess, you are not well. You must rest."
"Hands off, Loke!" I snapped back.
Yes, my body hurt. Yes, the pain was immense. The skin, however, was new; so I could pass for just being sore. I limped towards the doorway, my clothes scorched and singed. My hair, which was richer, silkier, wavier and a more furious red than Erza's, fell around my face and hung down to my knees, and as I opened the door, Natsu reached for me.
"DON'T TOUCH ME, DRAGNEEL!" I thundered.
Wrenching the door the rest of the way open and quickly making my way into the main hall, I found all the mages staring at me.
