When I was born there was a "malfunction" in the system according to the scientists. My mother wasn't eating right or doing harmful activity while she was in the process of genetic cloning or the system that never makes mistakes made a mistake. They blamed my mother and she was looked down upon by all. When I was chosen to go to the ship, The Ando Noco, she was enthralled.
"Now I'll have something to brag about. My son, yes, the deformed one, is now going on the most prestigious of ships!"
Everyone was so surprised and confused.
"He's so short, why would they choose him?"
"He won't amount to anything, we'll see him back in a couple of weeks."
I never did believed them. Back when humans were still alive there was a man called Charles Darwin. He said there was a process called Natural Selection where any species adapts over time to survive in their environment. I don't think the machine made a mistake when I came out. I think it was trying to evolve our race. That's why when I was chosen to go on the Ando Noco I wasn't surprised. I knew I would get chosen, and I knew that I would be the best recruit on the ship.

First person POV
I stepped out of the ship into the airlock and met another person. Non-binary by the looks of them.
"Hello there, and welcome to the Ando Noco! I'm Laen, and I will be escorting you to the bathrooms to get you cleaned up, and then to the front office to sign you in. Then I will take you on a small tour of the ship!"
"Thank you, Laen. Your kindness is appreciated." I liked this person. They didn't look down on me like I was a child because of my small stature(4 foot 6 inches). I can respect people like that.

Laen was walking me down the seemingly endless hallways in the ship when I saw something different. A light was out. In all of the other hallways they were spotless and clean, as if they were under constant maintenance, but this one had a single light bulb broken. I was intrigued. Laen was currently busy rambling on about the beautiful view you could get from all of the dorm rooms that they weren't paying attention to me. I slipped away down the hallway to see a dead end. My investigation had proved to be fruitless and in frustration I thumped my fist against the wall, and to my surprise, my fist went straight through the wall!
I face-planted on the floor, and when I looked up I saw a strange structure. There were many of what looked like white ribbons twirling endlessly around a black orb that was dripping with slime and muck. It was disgusting how unclean the orb was and I almost wanted to just wipe it off, but at the same time it was already gleaming with that gleam of a freshly polished thing. It made me want to touch it and see what in the almighty universe was keeping this thing polished but still dripping slime. I needed to see how it worked.

I got up, and touched the orb. There was a tiny static shock that happened when I touched it but otherwise it was ok. I rubbed along it, and saw that it was actually not polished but the slime was reflecting light. I pulled my now dirty hand from the orb, and felt an immense pain. It felt as if my skin was tearing apart, as if all my DNA was being damaged, as if my brain was being fried in a giant vat of acid. It was horrific, and all I heard in my ears was the sound of a loud siren. Then people in yellow suits came running in. They grabbed me and put me on a type of bed then carried me out. During all this I must have lost consciousness because I don't remember much.

I wake up in a small room surrounded with people I don't know. They seem panicked, and as I look at my hands all I see is slime and muck gushing from my skin. I pass out.

This time when I wake up, my body is acting normal. I think back to all the movies I have seen and try to summon the slime. It doesn't work. A man walks in and ups my dosage of something. I pass out.

I'm in my room. I can tell it's mine because of the view. It is amazing. I get out of bed and spend the rest of the day staring at the stars.

I'm given clothes and a note from Laen that says tomorrow I will be joining the others, so I should rest up today and eat lots. I put on the clothes, and stretch.

As I near the cafeteria I can hear loud laughter and a lot of talking. This is when I remember how short and weird looking I am. Immediately I start to wish I stayed in my room. I enter and the room silences, except when I pass a table of people all in red, a very tall male start to laugh rather loudly causing the others to join in. I refuse to look their way and give them satisfaction.
They are the average 6ft 3 inches besides the obvious leaders of each group, each of which are more like 6 ft 7 inches. I am a dwarf amongst giants. It is not a feeling I enjoy, but it is a feeling I have learned to tolerate. During all this torture I have a neutral face, and no one will break that face unless they genuinely make me smile or laugh. This doesn't happen often.

For some some odd reason the plates are all piled under this part of the ceiling that slopes down as if there were stairs. I hadn't seen any stairs in this ship so far. The plates that I could see were giant, and this was because the team master is in charge of bringing food for they're entire team. I had no team, so I climbed up on the counter and reached up to grab a small plate. I could not reach it, and stamped my foot in frustration. I hear a chuckle behind me, and then someone reaches over my head. They grab the plate I was going for and hand it to me.

"Thank you. I'm Alder, and you are?"
"I'm Alex! Nice to meet you, Alder. I like your... height..."
"thanks"
"I hope we get to know each other more! I would love to know what it was like to grow up being so short," he says." No offense!"
"None taken. What team are you in?"
"Yellow. Have they given you a team yet?"
"Not yet," I say." But I'm thinking of switching in between teams to scout out the competition and then form a team of my own with the best hunters I can find."
"Sounds good! Can I join your team?"
"When it forms, yes." Alex then pushes his glasses up his nose some more, and we exchange room numbers and then say our farewells.

Nice guy.

I walk over to the green table, and ask to join. They come up with some excuse and swiftly dismiss me. It's the same with other teams, except red who just straight up keeps laughing at me whenever I walk by. Such savages.

I walk by yellow table and hear a soft squeak. I turn around and see a short girl. Well maybe she's not that short, she's taller than me but not by much. She blushes as I look her way, and hides her face in her hands.

This could work. I converse with her, earning a few giggles from her and glares from a guy at green team. We start a team together, our team color is black. Alex joins, and now we have 3 members. Probably the smallest team in all of history, but I'm sure it'll be fine. They all seem pretty good hunters, and with less teammates there's less to keep track of.

But now I have updated my objective. It is not longer to just prove myself. It is to take down the top dog on the Ando Noco. And that "dog" is Ace.
