History
The Hartwood Hospital was originally known as Lanark District Asylum. It is located in Hartwood, North Lanarkshire, Scotland. The hospital is and abandoned 19th century psychiatric hospital and was completely self-sustaining. It was closed in 1995 due to being very over crowded. The original medical superintendent of the hospital was Dr. Archibald Campbell Clark, who had aimed to "cure when possible, and give the best possible care when a cure could not be found". Being very dedicated to his work, he was buried in the hospital's cemetery in the year 1901. He had preformed many controversial therapies, including seclusion, electro-conclusive therapy, and preformed the first lobotomy in Scotland. A great deal of the hospital had been destroyed when a fire broke out in the year 2004.
Ghost Sightings
So far, there has been one ghost sighting that I could find. This girl named Louise Keay Bell decided to go check out the old asylum and walk around the garden. She had seen a man walking his dog, and a cat along the roof top. Out of the corner of her eye, Bell had seen something she had thought to be a person at first. As she looked over, she saw nothing. Well, nothing other than the purple outline of a person disappearing.
