Chapter Twelve - Unexpected
Harry and I sat in the sand on a warm day, cuddling, watching the waves hit the shore. It was a relatively calm day and the beach was a empty except for us, Louis, Niall, Zayn, Chelsea, and Liam. Niall and Chelsea sat a little father from us, cuddling as well. Chels was leaning again'st Niall's chest with his arms wrapped around her. She would look up every so often and he'd smile down at her, pecking at her lips playfully. They had started dating about a week ago. I was really happy for both of them. They were really good for each other.Louis stood a little farther our from them, alone, skipping rocks in the ocean. Well, attempting to. The waves would swallow each rock before it could get two hops in. He seemed sad and lonely ever since Eleanor left him. Like nothing could make him feel better. Zayn and Liam were behind us, kicking a soccer ball around and laughing like little kids. Every few minutes, I'd hear a shout of anger from one of them and laughter from the other. It seemed like a normal day in Long Beach.
Except it wasn't. Vic hadn't been sleeping for the past two weeks. My evil mother called every few days, exchange a few words, and claim to have to go off somewhere. I don't know why she lies about being busy. The truth is that she just doesn't want to speak to us; it's too awkward. I don't blame her for not wanting any kind of communication with us. We all hated her guts anyway. I was getting sick and tired of her new hubby, Drew, sending me gifts every day, thinking he could buy my love and affection. This kid obviously did not know who he was dealing with.
Harry quietly kissed the top of my head, breaking my concentration. I smiled to myself, tears suddenly appearing in my eyes. I quickly wiped them before Harry could notice. He did though, of course. He grabbed my hand gently and kissed my fingertips.
"What's the matter, love?" he asked, snuggling his head into the crook of my neck. I shrugged and sniffled, attempting a smile. Tears were now flowing uncontrollably down my face.
"I hate it when I cry in front of you," I sobbed, curling up closer to him as he wrapped his arm tighter around me. He lifted my chip up with his free hand and kissed my tears away before softly kissing my lips.
"It'll be alright, babe." he whispered. Our conversation was broken off by the sound of shrill giggling. We turned around, spotting Niall now running around with Chelsea draped over his shoulder. She screamed his name loudly between laughs. He mimicked her in a high voice teasingly and then set her down, grabbing her face longingly before pecking at her face while she erupted into giggles again. Harry smirked and then turned back to me, still smiling.
"It's nice to see that she's happy with him," I whispered. Harry bit his lip, nodding. "You think Taylor's okay?" Harry's brow furrowed in concern and then he let out a deep sigh.
"Yeah, I think he's fine, love." he finally answered, smooching my cheek. I smirked a bit and then fiddled with my hair.
"Hey guys," Harry and I both looked up to find Louis staring down at us, rocking back and forth on the balls of his feet.
"Hey Lou!" I cheered, smiling warmly. He cracked a smile too.
"Mind if I sit with you?" he asked nervously.
"Well--"
"No, not at all. Sit," I jabbed Harry in the ribs and patted the ground next to me. Louis plopped down and crossed his feet, picking pebbles up and throwing them around randomly, not speaking.
