~~~Dark's PoV~~~
Back in middle and elementary school, I bullied this kid named Link. In highschool though, we became pretty close friends. I have no idea how, but we were best friends before our sophomore year. It wasn't long after we graduated that we became room mates.
Throughout school, Link had been popular. Of course, his well known name didn't transfer to the real world. His foster parents had kicked him out when he turned 18. Since Link had nowhere to go I let him stay at my place for a bit.
A little after my 19th birthday I had enough to move to a small apartment downtown. Link practically begged me to let him live with me. Of course I let him. He was my best friend and his job as a waiter wasn't paying too great.
As far as living conditions, we were okay. We had food, basic furniture, and the necessities. I had managed to get a job as a manager at Target. Link was just starting online college, as he couldn't afford to go to an actual one.
I inserted my keys into the door's lock, twisting it open. "Yo, Link, I'm home." I called out, kicking my shoes off at the doorway. Link was sitting on our small, pale green couch, his Macbook Air in his lap like always. I honestly had no idea how he afforded his laptop considering it was above one thousand dollars.
"Hey Dark." Link said, not taking his eyes off his screen. He had been backed up with essays, papers, reports and whatnot for college so he had really been hitting the books.
"How's the schoolwork coming?" I asked from the kitchen as I grabbed a pack of Ramen noodles from cabinet.
He sighed. "Not good. Zelda broke up with me and then the WiFi decided to be really sucky so I couldn't get anything done for two hours, and then my professor assigned another project." Link explained, barely glancing up from his laptop.
"Wait wait wait wait wait," I said, looking over at him, "Zelda dumped you?" I asked, setting some water to boil. Link nodded and stood up, heading to the kitchen.
"Yeah, over e-mail." He leaned against the kitchen island with a sad sigh. I felt bad for him. He was already on thin ice with his job, backed up on school work, and now his girlfriend left him over e-mail.
"What'd she say?" I asked, checking to see if the water was boiling yet. It wasn't quite ready yet so I poked the pot with a wooden spoon as if it would make it boil.
Link took his phone out of his pocket and opened his inbox. "My facebook status is single if you haven't checked recently. Hope you get it." He read off his screen, "And when I asked her why she just said 'you have a better relationship with your laptop than you do with me. That's why'"
"You tell her about your schoolwork?" I ask, still poking the pot with a spoon.
"Yeah, but she didn't care." He scoffed.
"Damn. That's low."
"I know." Link paused and took the spoon from me, "And poking the water won't make it boil faster. Do I really have to explain this every time you make Ramen?"
I shrug and check the water, which was just starting to boil. "Don't care." I say, unwrapping a pack of noodles. "You want any?" I ask.
Link shook his head. "I think I'll have a 4pm bowl of cereal." He said, grabbing a box of bootleg Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Ever since we moved to the apartment, the only name brand things we bought were noodles and stuff like laundry detergent. The bootleg stuff was cheaper and just as good.
"Eh suit yourself." I said as I dropped the noodles into the boiling water. Once my noodles finished cooking, I added the seasoning and drained the excess water. I scooped the noodles into a bowl and grabbed a fork from the drawer.
