I walked through the front doors into the bustling hallways of Timber High. It was the first day of school. For me, it was the first day of the end of my high school career. I was a senior this year, eager to get out of school and go to college.

I walked over to my locker, the one I've had since my freshman year. Amber, my best friend, greeted me in a tight bear hug.

"It's so great to see you again!" She said, hugging me even tighter.

"I know! Even though we talked literally last night, it feels like it's been an eternity!" I said, finally wrapping my arms around her to return the hug.

We pulled apart from each other and I turned to my locker, twisting the lock to enter my combination. I opened the locker successfully and grabbed my notebooks I placed in it the week before at the open house. Amber grabbed her books and shut her locker, linking her arm with mine so we wouldn't be separated by the crowd around us.

"Off we go to Ms. Caulfield's class!" Amber said, a joyful tone in her voice. I laughed at her unnecessary enthusiasm and started walking.

----------

I sat at my desk in Mr. Zimmerman's class, quietly looking over the rest of the supplies I needed for my other classes.

'I've been to 5 periods already! This day couldn't go by any faster!' I thought to myself, waiting for the bell to ring so I could return home.

Suddenly, I felt a tap on my shoulder. I quickly turned my head to see who it was and saw Luke Hawkins standing over me, holding a piece of card stock in his hand. I felt my breath hitch as I realized who it was.

I've had a crush on Luke Hawkins since middle school. He was tall, with warm colored skin, blonde hair and striking green eyes. He stared into my eyes and I could see that he wanted to ask me something.

"Hey, Hannah. I know this may be a little weird, but I was wondering if you wanted to come to a party I'm having tonight." He said, his words slow and calm.

"Um, sure! What for?" I asked quietly.

"It's sorta like this back to school party at my place. Pretty much everyone in the senior class will be there. It wouldn't be a party without you there." He said, a small smile on his lips.

I felt my cheeks get hot as I blushed.

"Sure! Sounds like fun! I'll be there." I smiled. "Awesome! See you at 8."

He turned away and walked back to his desk across the room. I turned and looked for Amber, wondering if she saw what just happened.

As I landed my eyes on her, her jaw hung open in shock as she walked over to my desk.

"You just got asked to go to a party at Luke Hawkins' house! That's big! Really big!" Amber said, the shock still visible on her face.

"It's not really a big deal. The whole senior class is going to be there." I replied, trying to hide my excitement.

"Yeah, but it's still big! You got asked personally instead of over a message like most of the class! This is awesome!" She said, excitement gleaming brighter in her ocean blue eyes.

The bell rang loudly over the speakers as everyone stood up from their desks and filed out of the classroom. I hurried out, trying to get to the door fast and reach my car.

"Woah, Hannah wait up!" Amber called after me as I raced for the door.

"I can't wait! I need to go get ready for Luke's party!" I called back, finally reaching the door.

Tonight was going to be absolutely amazing.

----------

I returned home at around 6 after shopping for an outfit for the party tonight. I raced for the door, closing it behind me slowly. I turned around, seeing my mom standing in the doorway to the kitchen.

"What's the bag for?" She asked, looking at the bag that contained my outfit for the party.

"It's my outfit..." I paused, "for the party I'm going to at 8." I looked her in the eyes, my face definitely showing how desperate I was.

"And why wasn't I told about this?" She said, her face stern.

"I wasn't asked until 6th period. I mean, it's not a big deal! It's just a back to school party at Luke Hawkins house." I replied, my heart racing as I saw her face change into surprise.

"You were asked to go to a party at Luke Hawkins house? That's amazing honey, I'm so happy for you!" She said, walking towards me and wrapping her arms around me. "Now go get ready so you can go! You don't want to be late for this event!" My mother turned me around and pushed me toward the stairs. I ran up the stairs, my mind and heart racing with excitement.

I closed my bedroom door behind me and grabbed the clothes out of the bag. I laid the sleeveless pink top and the short black mini skirt on my bed, admiring my amazing outfit choice. I quickly changed into the clothes, throwing my old outfit into the hamper beside my bed.

I looked at myself in my mirror, running my hands down my sides to fix the shape of my skirt. I smiled as I looked at myself again.

'I hope Luke thinks I look good.' I thought as I headed back downstairs. I grabbed my long black cover-up from the coat rack and put it on.   I opened the door and headed outside.

"Goodbye mom! Love you!" I yelled. "Bye honey, love you too! Be home by 1 AM!"

I jumped into my car, smiling widely.

Tonight is going to be amazing!
