chapter 1
"Murphy, it's okay. It's okay. Shhh. You can let go now, it's okay. Heaven is waiting. That's right. Go to sleep, precious," I soothed while fighting through the tears that were now gliding down my cheeks. The veterinarian had just inserted the fluid into my dog's bloodstream and he slowly heaved his last breath.
"You can take him home now, miss" the veterinarian softly spoke. I nodded my head slightly struggling through my short gasps of air. I wrapped my arms around his limp body and made my out to my car before I signed out at the front desk.
"Everything okay, miss?" the employee said. I quickly scribbled my name onto the clipboard with one hand holding my poor canine with the other. He was a small Yorkie so it was no discomfort on my front.
I gently placed Murphy in the backseat with his head propped up against the backrest. I was still struggling through sobs all the way out into the middle of the woods. It seemed like a very peaceful place that Murphy would hopefully be able live out the rest of his life.
"Dangit," I barely heard from behind as i began to drive my shovel into the ground. It was a soft whisper just being barely loud enough to be heard. I froze at the sound and slowly raised my shovel out of the ground and rotated 180 degrees. To my relief, there was nothing there except for Murphy, but he had been ever so slightly moved. The only reason I noticed was because I specifically leaned him against a tree stump to elevate his head. Now I was freaked out. I slowly approached my dead pet and looked on the opposite side. What a relief. Wait a second . A little above my head, there was a note tacked onto the side of the tree. It read three simple words.
