(Millie's perspective)
High school. Now grades actually matter, but that wasn't the problem. I always used to get straight A's in middle school, but everything is different now and I'm not prepared for it.
"Goodmorning Millie! Are your excited for your first day of high school?" My mom calls up the stairs as she was about to go to work.
Getting ready I call back down "I guess, I'm kind of nervous," I put my clothes on and fly down the stairs realizing I have only ten minutes left until I'm late for school. "I have to go mom bye!" I grab a banana, slip on my black converse sneakers and run outside towards the bus stop where Sadie and I planned to meet.
"Millie!" A quiet voice in the distance shouts. It gets louder and I quickly turn around and run towards her.
"Sadie! I can't believe it's been three months!" I run towards her and hug her tight. We walk back to the bus together because they were about to leave us. The whole summer I've been traveling and I didn't get to see any of my friends. We ranted about our summer the whole bus ride. I traveled all throughout Europe exploring the continent. And she went to summer camps with some of her other friends and had an amazing time without me. I know I shouldn't be jealous because I was on the other side of the world but I still am.
"Millie I think Noah likes me. At camp all he did was stare at me and his friends kept trying to get him to ask me out. But I don't feel the same way about him."
"Because you like Gaten right?" I smiled.
She blushed and smiled, "Well...I mean sort of. it's complicated."
"How was camp with all of your other friends?" I clenched my hands into a tight fist so she couldn't see. Before she left all she talked about were her amazing friends at camp she was leaving me to see, and obviously I was annoyed.
"Camp was absolutely amazing besides the Noah issue. I have great news! My best friend Sophia is moving here and you two can meet!"
"How delightful." I whispered to myself. Another person to replace me of course. But I have no idea who she is, maybe she's actually nice.
The bus stopped at that minute and we hopped outside. Caleb was also walking into school and I shouted "Hey caleb!"
He walked towards our direction and Sadie waved, still worried about what to do with Noah. It was obvious he liked her since seventh grade. He trailed behind her everywhere she went, trying to catch her eye while the only one she was paying attention to was Gaten. It took her this long to realize he had feelings for her.
"How was your summer Millie and Sadie?"
He grinned and laughed as we both responded with "Great." Caleb was the most positive person anyone will ever know. Even when people used to bully him he still managed to keep a smile on his face and got through it.
Walking through the halls Caleb stopped at his locker and we passed by Gaten's. "Gaten what's up?" I asked him. Sadie's face turned bright red when he turned to us, gave me an annoyed look, and continued walking. She fixed her hair trying to act calm even though it was obvious she wasn't. I usually never talked to Gaten because he hated almost everyone, but Sadie didn't have the guts to speak to him so I had to instead. Last year in January he stopped talking to most of the grade, and refused to tell anyone what happened.
He walked to class and Sadie grabbed my arm and pulled me to her locker whispering, "Do you think he noticed how nervous I was?"
"Probably not." I lied. He gave her a suspicious look as she stared at the floor anxiously. But Gaten was as clueless as Sadie was with Noah, so I doubt it would have made a difference.
I walk away to get ready for class and passed by Finns locker, "Hi Millie." He smiles.
He hurried to class as I smiled and called back "Hey Finn." Even though I've known Finn since elementary school, he was one of the most popular people but we remained friends. He hasn't changed, but everything else has.
I continue walking to English and see Noah in the class. I walk and sit next to him ignoring the teacher and whisper, "Hey Noah."
"Hi Millie I missed you." Besides Sadie, Noah was my best friend that has been there for me through everything.
"I missed you too I can't believe it's been three months since I saw you. How are things with Sadie?" Since last year I've been trying to set them up, but Sadie hasn't fallen for Noah yet. I know they would be perfect for each other. She hardly pays any attention to him though.
"Things are actually going well. I think I'm going to ask her out." He was smiling and I knew he was excited. But I would hate to tell him the truth, because Sadie barely knows Noah exists.
"Uh really? Um are you sure about that?" I gulped. I don't want Noah's heart to be broken because Sadie doesn't have feelings for him. They are both my best friends but I wouldn't want to do anything to hurt them.
