Once Upon the OutlawQueen

Once upon a time, there lives a lady who dreams nothing that is overly magical or flamboyant. She didn’t want a prince or a king with a castle, she didn’t desire to have her own throne, a crown and be a queen. She just wanted and needed to be with the man she loves. Her name is Regina. She fell in love once with a stable man, Daniel, and hoped for a fairytale for herself, perhaps, her own happy ending.

"My gift to you... is this happy, happy day." That’s basically what I hear from Regina whenever I see her in Once Upon a Time. Who would have thought she’ll be our favorite character, the Evil Queen who rips the hearts of her wretched victims, a villain. But it wasn’t always like that. She’s been a queen and out of her miseries came her vengeance leading to her famous role of the EVIL Queen. A portrayal of a character that attempts to create her own delighted and joyous story which destiny seems so restricted to offer her.

“Soon, everything you love, everything all of you love, will be taken from you, forever.” Much like how she felt when Daniel was killed by her own mother through the information given by Snow White. There started the seemingly endless war of the two queens. From season one episode one, we saw how badly Regina wanted to have her happy ending. Crashing Charming’s wedding bringing horror and scaring everyone.  “And out of your suffering will rise my victory. I shall destroy your happiness if it is the last thing I do.” This is the point where Regina vowed to never ever let Snow be happy, if that’s the only way she could avenge Daniel’s death, if that’s the only way she could find her own happiness.

Now on the third season of Once Upon a Time’s return, I would love to see Regina be happy, not because she tore down the Charmings or destroyed Emma or took Henry for herself. I’d love to see her laugh without casting a spell. If something goes wrong in fairytale land or in Storybrooke, most of the time they blame Regina but if she helped or saved them, she’s recognized for a brief moment and maybe a little appreciated but never trusted. Why? Simply because she used to be the Evil Queen, or maybe she still is the Evil Queen, but not that evil anymore. And that breaks my heart, and I know a lot of Evil Regals’ hearts too. So at this point of time, I’d like to have something or someone to make her smile because even though she has done horrible things, she still has the every right to be happy.

So if I may, I’ll ship Regina with Robin Hood. Regina herself said that true love is magic, the most powerful of all. It creates happiness. After all, if Tinkerbell is right, he could be Regina’s soulmate, her one true love, her very own Prince Charming. I’m not saying that in order for Regina, the not-so-Evil-Queen, or any other fairytale character to be happy, they’ll need a knight in shining armor or a male counterpart. Don’t get me wrong, she is a powerful queen who doesn’t need anyone to protect her. But maybe, just maybe, she can have someone who smells like forest to start over and have a taste of happiness for crying out loud. It has been three seasons now and we’ve seen her anger, her vengeance, her affection. We’ve always seen her hurting despite of her attempts to change, to help and to save Storybrooke and all characters stranded there. It wouldn’t hurt to see someone from the dark side to be happy once in a while because it just gets tiring and tormenting to see Regina suffering ALL THE TIME. Even Rumpelstiltskin had his chance of Rumbelle. So why not give the Queen her shot for love? I say Outlaw Queen!

Maybe it’s just me being a hopeless romantic, I’m not sure. Or maybe it’s me being an Evil Regal longing for Regina the Queen to be happy at some point in this series, that I could be certain. Just imagine Regina, having magical powers but does not feel the need to use it, like when she was trying to change for Henry. That would be enough challenge for her, so we will still see the fierce queen. And to see the Queen being amazed on how great the power of love is and be entirely powerless over it at the same time. Start her love story and be stunned how much more powerful Regina can become. After all, it’s all about love.

“Villains don't get happy ending.” Not the Evil Queen. Not Regina Mills. She’s one villain you just can’t hate and possibly the only villain that will have her story written and end in …and so they lived happily ever after.
