I walked out to the field that Lick was in. I knew that this would be the best place to fight Ligen for my sister. Not only was there no chance to hurt the people of New York, it gave me room to do what I need to do. The guys were with me for back up in case this doesn't work and I'm killed. I didn't want them to do anything, but I couldn't talk them out of coming when I told them my plan.
"Egon, are you sure?" Peter asked me. They were against the idea of me doing this, but I had to. For Natalie.
"No," I answered, "but I have to do it. It's the only way to save Natalie."
"Then I hope you don't kill yourself," Ray told me giving me the book. I took it and sighed.
"Anything you want to say to us before you do this?" Winston asked. "Natalie never got to say anything before she was trapped."
"I'll miss you guys," I answered. "Don't stop fighting these ghost. And tell Janine I love her."
"We can do that," Winston told me and they got back into the car. They couldn't help me, and we all knew it. I took a deep breath and walked far away from Ecto 1, enough so the guys wouldn't get hurt but could still see me.
"It's just you and me," I whispered. I placed the book down on the ground, opened. "You want me Ligen? Then come and get me!" I yelled at the open pages. "I'll fight you for her! Come and face me!"
There was a rumble near my feet, and then Ligen appeared in front of me with a smile. He looked down with pleasure on his face like he was going to enjoy every second of what he was going to do. I didn't let that get to me. He wasn't going to do a thing to me.
"You are either very brave or very stupid Dr. Spengler," Ligen told me. "I've stopped you many times before. What is going to stop me from dragging you into White's book and feeding you to the other demons?"
"Because I now know how to defeat you. It's me. Every since the book and yourself were created you've had one weakness. When it was White it was her brother that took the book away from her. You killed him, didn't you? That's why he was able to give it to a friend of his. He was dying so the book could only follow him to the grave. Has more people in the family come, you tried to kill has many of the sons so they couldn't stop you. The females of my family might be able to free you, but the males are the ones who can defeat and kill you!"
"Enough!" Ligen yelled at me. "You are nothing but a mortal Egon Spengler! You are powerless against me! Give up and I might spare your sister and let her return to Earth alive."
"Natalie? You would?"
"If you give up."
It sounded so good. To have Natalie back home with me, laughing at all of the others jokes, to see her work at her desk, and to see her bust ghost again. Yet I knew what Ligen was telling me was bull shit. If I gave up he would simply kill me and then keep Natalie until he was done with her. The only way to free her was killing Ligen.
"Never," I growled and I shoot my beam. Ligen cried out in pain, not knowing the beam was coming. He would have thrown something at me, but the only thing here was Ecto 1, and the guys could out drive Ligen. I kept hitting him has he tried to smash me with his hand. It's all he really had.
"Stop!" Ligen ordered, but I didn't. I have to finish what I am doing. If I could hit the one spot I knew would send him to normal size, my size, I could do the last thing I need.
"You know you never were a great person or demon Ligen," I told him, finally reaching the back of his head. I let my stream hit the spot right behind his ear. He yelled out in pain, and he strank down to my size. He glared at me.
"What do you plan to do now Dr. Spengler?" he asked.
"This," I answered and took out the music box I made earlier. I opened it and let the song play, the thing I made for my sister be seen by Ligen. His body started to fade away.
"You!" he yelled. "Turn it off! Turn it off!"
"Even if I did turn it off it wouldn't save you Ligen. You're dead."
"No," he yelled and took me by the collar of my uniform. "I will not be destroyed by you! If I die, you are going to be trapped!" He dragged me to the book, and in his last movement threw my at the book. I grabbed the sides of it, watching Ligen fade into dust, gone forever.
I closes my eyes feeling a body brush my feet. The demons were waiting to kill me. All of this was worth it to save Natalie. If Ligen is killed then whoever he trapped before his death would be free where ever he tapped them. It didn't have to be Earth. Yet that is were Natalie would be at. I would be trapped since I would fall after Ligen was gone.
I felt a pair of hands grab my wrist, catching me before I fell into the book. They were now the only thing keeping me from dying, but the guys would be sucked in too.
"Peter, Ray, Winston," I yelled up at them, the wind too loud for me to talk like I usually do, "let go! You'll be trapped!"
"Then it's a good thing I'm not one of the guys," the person spoke up. I looked up to see a woman smiling at me. It looked like White with the wind blowing into my face.
"White?" I asked. "Is that you?"
"Egon," the woman laughed. "Don't you know your own sister?"
"Natalie," I sighed has she pulled me up. She kicked the book closed, and it exploded into dust. It was gone now too. I hugged her so tight that I think she nearly turned purple. She hugged back with has much force she could.
"Egon," she said with a smile. "You'll catch me whenever I fall, right?"
"Of course," I answered looking at her. She had so many cuts, so many tangles in her hair, so much black around her eyes. But she was with me now. She wouldn't be hurt anymore.
"Good," she sighed. Then she closed her eyes and fell into my arms out cold.
