Chapter 5

Luc called a taxi to take them to their secret destination.

“Are we going to the Champs-Élysées?” She guessed, peering out the window. Eliza’s green eyes sparkled in the light, and her infectious smile captured Luc’s attention.  He smiled back.

“You’ll see.” Luc tittered.

It wasn't long before they stopped at a place that Eliza had never seen before.

Luc paid the driver and stepped out, opening the door for Eliza.

“What a gentleman.” Eliza giggled.

“Anything for you ma’lady.” Luc bowed, taking Eliza’s petite hands into his and leading her into the park.

The lanterns were the first thing Eliza noticed when she sauntered into the lit park. The trees created a pathway for the couple to follow. It lead them to a few benches but beyond it was a tiny hill where you could see the rest of the beautiful landscape.

They walked around the benches and onto the small hill to reveal a garden filled with all kinds of different flowers. Eliza loved flowers. She enjoyed lilacs for their aroma, peonies for their colour, and she liked to sketch anemones.

She was overjoyed.  She wondered how he knew to bring her here.

Eliza threw her arms around Luc and he hugged her back.

“Great bear hug.”  she commented and she quickly asked,

“What do you call a bear with no teeth?” Eliza awaited his reply.

Luc scratched his chin, trying to come up with an answer. He threw his hands up in the air unable to guess.

“I have no idea.”

“A gummy bear!” Eliza wanted to ensure that the mood wasn't too serious.

Luc started to laugh.  He gently took Eliza’s hand and they made their way down the path to the main road. It began to drizzle.  They jumped into the first taxi and Luc gave the driver directions.   Within a short time, they stopped and Luc paid the fare.  Eliza was surprised to find that the few drops of rain had turned into a down pour.

“It’s pouring, why did we get out here?” Eliza looked at Luc’s face for an answer .

She was too busy ranting about the weather that she didn't realize that right in front of her, fully lit and in all its glory was the Eiffel Tower.  It looked beautiful with the rain bouncing off the twinkle lights.  Luc took his jacket and placed it over Eliza head to keep her dry.  She turned to face him. Once again, the smile on Eliza’s face was breathtaking.  He paused briefly as he leaned in toward her.  Luc’s lips gently pressed against Eliza’s.

It was magical.  It was perfect.
