I was told I was nothing and Ill never be

They said it wasn't worth just being me

I was told I had a choice

They told me I was a women it was my job to sacrifice

I was told I was to fat

And told me all that I am lacked

They told me to close my legs

But always open if I needed to be higher up in the world

Quick to remind me that I'm black and never failed to remind me I'm just a Daddy's girl that never was

I was told to shut up

And only say something if my husband was involved

I was told never to cry

To hide it all with a smile based on a lie

I was told I wasn't good for nothing more than being a hoe

Sleeping around with different men because my Daddy wasn't around anymo

So I dropped out of college

I sacrificed my life for my husband

I starved myself until I was stick thin

I opened my legs to the highest bidder

I shut my mouth up
