Evan swirled his drink in his glass as he discreetly watched the redhead sway seductively, her hips grinding provocatively into the crotch of the man holding her tightly.
A surge of annoyance flowed through him as he regarded the man's suspiciously tented pants, the constricted clothing indicating his arousal.
His ire rose as she turned and molded her body to his, her arms wrapped around his neck, and whispered something into his ears which caused him to grin widely, and, keeping one hand slung low on her hip, his hand palming her ass, he ushered her off the dance floor and out of the room.
Throwing back the rest of his vodka tonic in one gulp, he glanced around at what remained of the wedding party.
The couple, his good friend Jax and his newly wedded wife Demi, had long since left, as had his other friends and most of the invited guests.
The few stragglers who remained, the younger party goers, much like the redhead, gave no indication that they wanted to leave anytime soon.
Except she had left, unexpectedly.
He'd stayed behind, warding off unwanted female attention and hoping the sucker who'd clung to her side all evening would fuck off for a minute and leave an opening for him to step in and, quite frankly, save her from falling prey to the man's mindless sexual advances.
But, that hadn't happened, and it seemed it was time to concede defeat and head up to his hotel room.
He had an early flight to Portland, Oregon the following day and it was time to call it a night. He made for the exit, quickening his long strides as he noticed another tipsy female approach, from the corner of his eye. She stopped short when she thankfully realized that her short drunken steps wouldn't get to him in time to stall his exit.
The huge multipurpose hall on the ground floor of the Maximillian hotel had several elevators situated in various locations just beyond it's doors. One of which he now approached.
Pressing the button to signal the elevator, he stepped to the side to wait for it to arrive and briefly considered calling either Cas or Jay who'd left the hotel earlier, to invite himself over to one of their places.
He quickly discarded the idea as he recalled seeing Max, who happened to own the prestigious five-star hotel, leave earlier with a buxom brunette, and assumed his other friends would have similar plans for the night.
His thoughts were directed back to the beautiful redhead he'd had his sights on earlier, and, he was forced to remind himself that he hadn't been looking for anything more than light conversation, assuming he'd managed to rescue her from the dickhead she'd gotten herself entangled with.
His elevator pinged, the doors opening on arrival. He stepped through and had just lifted a hand to press the button whose signal would cart him to the 29th floor and hopefully, a good nights rest, when a thud and a low whimper reached his ears.
Keeping one foot in the box, he glanced out and about the brightly lit open hallway which reverberated with the sound of the music coming from the party, and, seeing nothing, retook his place in the elevator.
The doors had just closed when he swore he heard a woman cry out. Slamming his hand on the emergency stop button, the elevator jolted, but, thankfully didn't move as he pressed the button to open the doors immediately afterwards.
Following the direction from which he thought he'd heard the noise, he had only walked a few steps when he heard muffled sounds from behind a discreetly positioned door marked utility.
He hesitated for a beat but then threw caution to the wind when he heard a sharp gasp and a muffled moan.
He hurriedly pulled the door open and rushed in, but came to an abrupt stop as the individuals responsible for the sounds he'd previously alluded to distress signals, broke apart, breathing heavily, dishevelled and in various states of undress.
He fixed his gaze on the redheaded girl, who was currently holding the upper part of her dress with one arm, her other hand struggling to pull down the bottom of her dress which was bunched around her waist. His gaze slid slowly down the smooth creamy skin of her flat stomach, pausing briefly at the junction of her thighs at the sight of the equally smooth flesh there, before continuing down her long legs to her bare feet.
He ignored the familiar twitch in his pants as he regarded the heels which lay scattered at her feet, beside a beige colored scrap of lace, and his gaze shifted to the imbecile, who had left her exposed while he tended to his own clothing.
It took only a couple steps for him to reach the man and a split second to lay him flat on the ground. He stood clenching and unclenching his fist as he heard the redhead behind him give a startled gasp.
Turning toward the girl who was now appropriately clothed, he squatted before her, picking up her heels and handing them to her before nodding toward the discarded lingerie, 'you should leave that here,' he said as he rose to his feet to gaze into her stormy brown eyes, 'wouldn't be wise to put them back on considering where they've been.'
She said nothing in response as she retrieved her shoes from him and put them on, though he didn't miss the look of annoyance on her face.
Shoes in place, she turned away from him to leave the small room without so much as a glance at her former beau who was now lying unconscious on the ground, and in that moment, he made a split second decision.
Lifting her into his arms, he ignored her surprised squeal, as he walked out of the door, which clicked shut after them, leaving behind the fuckwad who'd been trying to get lucky with the girl in his arms.
