Uhhh, so I wrote this a really long time ago when the chapter in the picture first came out. It was my first fic I ever wrote. I'm considering continuing it! Any constructive criticism would be nice. Please don't be mean tho ^~^
"I like you so much I'm going to explode"
Jian Yi's words played on a continuous loop in Zheng Xi's mind, a painful reminder of the previous night. When Jian Yi, his best friend, confessed his feelings.
"Do you like me?" Zheng Xi remembered asking, his head turned to meet the horrified expression of Jian Yi. He sat up rapidly, face flushed and redder than he'd ever seen before.
"Is it...that kind of like?" The words fell out of his lips. He had to know.
Jian Yi stood up fast and muttered a curt, "Give me a second" before he hurriedly ran to the door and slammed the door behind him. He heard muffled, ragged breath that eventually subsided to absolute silence.
He was about to break down the damn door himself until Jian Yi opened the door and wobblily walked towards him.
"Jian Yi..." Zheng Xi softly whispered.
"Zheng Xi." He walked towards him (or more like wobbled because of how much he was shaking) and stood directly in front of him as Zheng Xi sat on the edge of the bed.
All while his slender and delicate fingers tilted his chin so he could meet the pain stricken gaze of Jian Yi.
"Are you an idiot?" His voice strained, like there was this huge lump in his throat that he couldn't swallow.
Zheng Xi felt clammy, shaky hands latch their way around his neck. Sweat started to bead across Jian Yi's forehead and he felt his stomach churn.
"I like you so much I'm going to explode."
Those words again. Those damn words alone almost stopped Zheng Xi's heart from beating. He knew all along. His affections were very subtle at first, but he simply chalked it up to Jian Yi's hyper and abnormal personality. But it later advanced. He caught Jian Yi on multiple occasions looking at him with intense yearning and want that scared the fuck out of him. Then, it heightened to kisses and physical touch. But to actually hear confirmation from the mouth of the boy that mattered the most to him left him rattled and so damn confused. He tried to utter words but they wouldn't come out.
"Whether it was before or in the future...only you"
Fuck.
The words hung in the air. They were thick and heavy with emotion; a accumulation of the built up frustration, brutal rejection, and words that went unsaid between the pair over the years.
He didn't say anything.
"Did you hear it clearly, idiot?"
Jian Yi looked away from him, grabbing a hold of Zheng Xi's hair.
"Hearing a guy say this to you must not make you happy. Especially if it's your best friend,"
His voice sounded dead, monotone and completely void of any detectable emotion, as if this left him emotionally worn.
"But at least I finally said it"
"Good night."
He didn't look up until the door shut and he just sat there for a second. Trying to process the words of his best friend. Eventually, when his body started to catch up with his mind, he stood up and walked in his living room. He saw Jian Yi on the couch, his head pressed deeply into the pillow and his fingers gripping tightly at the covers.
"Jian Yi," He lowered himself onto his knees as Jian Yi shifted his body but still unwilling to look at him.
Pushing the soft hair out of the boy's puffy and bloodshot eyes, he bent down to kiss his forehead.
"I know."
