“I’m sorry to cut you off from such a moving story, but t seems we’re out of time Nash,” Fyllan said over the sobs and “aws”. Much of the audience was tearing up over the story, and on some level Nash wanted to too. He remembered every detail of that day, yet Cameron was nowhere near. They drifted apart after they left the hotel and he hasn’t heard from him since. He got a lot of his information changed, and they were both too busy to catch up with each other.

He turned to Fyllan, then manufactured a fake smile, “It’s alright I had fun telling the story.”

“Well if that was fun for you, just wait for what we have in store. We have a going away present for you”

“Oh really? Thanks, I’ll make sure to think of “Fyllan’s Fly-by at 2PM” every single time I look at it”

All of sudden a different voice was heard from backstage behind Fyllan. Nash couldn’t make out the figure, and Fyllan was idle with a mischievous look. It was Cameron in tight dark blue skinny jeans, his usual hairstyle, and a red-striped white polo. He was walking over, but Nash wasted no time; he nearly leaped out of his seat, and walked at brisk pace. Their hands collapsed together, then pulled each other into a one-handed hug.

They retreated a couple inches away from each other, and turned to the audience, who was now bawling over the heartfelt moment. Nash smiled, and waved at the many fans and other audience members. Cameron began to walk towards the backstage just smiling to himself, with Nash close behind, he couldn’t help but wonder what thoughts were producing that magnificent smile of his.

They walked through the studio reaching the elevator, “So what were you smiling about Cam”, Nash asked.

“Nothing important, just remembered how today is my girlfriend’s birthday,” Cameron replied nonchalantly. The door opened and the door on Nash’s heart automatically closed. Why was he being so naive!?

The sounds of their footsteps echoed through the parking lot as they walked towards Cameron’s car. Nash couldn’t let him notice, but at the same time there was this memory nagging at him. He disregarded it and took a silent breath, “Tell her I say Happy Birthday,” he said chuckling.

“Sure thing”

Two beeps and the sound of working mechanics emitted from a midnight SUV.  They climbed in and the car rumbled to start. Cameron turned out of the parking lot eventually reaching the highway. Nash looked out into the distance at the bustling traffic and the lively office buildings until the sight was cut off by trees and mounds of soil. He sighed and leaned back while facing forward.

Cameron wasn’t so stupid that he didn’t notice that Nash was feeling down, but he really didn’t want to bring up the issue. He had his girlfriend’s birthday to think about. “Girlfriend” the word echoed through his head; was there something wrong with her? The idea? He shrugged the thoughts away and finally decided to kill the silence. “How ya been?”

“Cameron, you know me better than that, if you don’t want to have a conversation, it’s okay”

“Dude, I haven’t seen you a year ago, which was the end of summer break. Can’t we catch u-”

“We live 10 minutes from each other, and 15-20 by walking”

“We’ve been pretty busy with our lives, let’s just try while we can. It’s going to take us some time to get home.”

“Fine” Nash was infuriated with Cameron’s obvious conscious ignorance. Before Cameron had a chance to get annoyed, Nash resumed his sentence, “what’d you want to talk about?”

“You never finished the story about our summer break,” He said while smirking.

“Well….”
