High above the freeway, a boy grasped the overhanging railings. He almost slipped as he manoeuvred onto the tiny ledge, and for one second he felt a sheer moment of panic,clutching and grasping for balance.
The wind was strong. The traffic was a whir below him, a river of cars and headlights streaming together. His hands were freezing;his fingers numb, cramping. The silver heart pendant wrapped in his hand glinted, even in the dark.
Everything felt hazy-the blackness before his eyes and the blackness before his thoughts. He was just breaths away from jumping. He felt the darkness move through him. All the memories shattering before his eyes. The words mimicked through his thoughts, and the touch made his legs weak.
"I trusted you"he whispered.
Then he let go.
He was flying.
Falling.
And in a flash he realised he couldn't take it back.His lungs squeezed to pinpricks.
He couldn't breathe.
He clawed at the nothingness as he headed head first for the icy water that swirled below him.
He screamed.
