I kept my eyes fixed on the journalist who had asked me that question. The room was engulfed in an unsettling wave of screams and demands for answers.
I noticed an arm gently grabbing my wrist, it was one of the bodyguards. Ben came up and looked at me, gestured to the bodyguard, and walked me off the stage. I heard the flashes again and Ben talking.
"Mrs. Madson isn't going to answer any more questions. I will answer in her place..."
He continued speaking, but I was already out of the room. I snapped out of my uncertainty and suddenly woke up. A whirlpool of emotions began to unleash inside me. How is it that Brita had escaped? How did she do it? She was going to kill Lasse, and I was next on the list.
A question hammered at my head, what reasons does Brita have for wanting to kill him? I know that she is a born defender of justice and that, according to her, my husband had done something very wrong in his work, and she knew it. How is it possible? Was that why I never saw Lasse? Why was he working so hard at hiding things from me? No. He is my husband. He can't lie to me. I needed answers, and I needed them now.
I kept waiting in the room where they had put me with two of the four bodyguards. Each one was on one side of the only door, two inside and two outside. Was I that important? I bit my lower lip looking for the answer, sitting on a large white sofa.
I watched the bodyguards. Black suits, red ties, dress shoes, and cute little earrings.
The one to the left of the door had fairly short hair, but you could see the grayish tint. The wrinkles were beginning to appear on his face, but his great height commanded great respect.
The other bodyguard, on the other hand, had long, silver-blonde hair and bright blue eyes. They both avoided looking at me.
I seemed like a real jerk in this room. Waiting for what? God, I couldn't take it anymore. I didn't know how long I had been stuck there, doing absolutely nothing. I got up and headed for the door. In less than half a second, the two bodyguards came together and covered the door for me. I looked at them questioningly.
"Would you let me out, please?"
"I'm sorry, Mrs. Madson, but we can't." The blonde bodyguard answered in an authoritative voice.
"Can I know why?"
"Dr. Ben asked us to do so. He'll be here in a few moments to talk to you." the gray-haired bodyguard explained.
I nodded politely and rolled my eyes as I turned to go back to the couch. I sat back down. I began to wonder how Lasse, Agnes, and Jens were doing. When would all this end? I couldn't help but sigh. I was so tired of all this, of having to go through all this stuff. My mind began to cloud with so many questions. It was a real hell.
As despair nearly overtook me, Ben walked into the room.
"Hello again, Alicia," he greeted as if nothing had happened.
"Did you know? Did you know that Brita had escaped?" I asked, noticing how the simple thought of knowing that she was out of control made the blood run swiftly through my veins.
"Calm down, Alicia. Everything will be fine. The police are on it."
"Do whatever you must to make this end, please." I was exhausted. Tiredness clothed each of my words.
At that moment, someone entered the room. It was a doctor. He started talking to Ben. I noticed how my heart had accelerated, and my breathing was ragged.
Ben looked at me, and his smile appeared like lightning in the night.
"Mrs. Madson, your husband is awake."
