Someone once told me that I was an old soul, trapped in a young body. At the time I didn't understand, but it sounded nice and so I trusted her. Time ended up proving her wrong, but to this day I wonder what she meant.
Since then, I started looking at the world differently, seeing depth in what I once thought shallow. I know now that nothing ever really is. I found out that an "old soul" is just someone aware of something more, beyond however far their own senses observe.
Someone I could never be.
This isn't about her... This is about me. Still, her words changed me. We fantasized once about sitting up on the rooftop under the stars, looking at everything from above. Talking about life and its mysteries and letting the night guide our thoughts. It could've been anything, happy or sad, silly or serious, good or bad, but it was ours. We never made it to the rooftop.
What follows is my attempt at becoming who she thought I was. These are the words I never said.
