Teddy bears!!!

Mark's pov
I visited Jack every day in my free time for the next month, bringing a new puzzle each day. Jack slowly began to join in as he listened to me describe each new place the puzzle created. Dan said he started going to craft and other therapy lessons, joining in every now and then but jot fully comfortable with so many people around.

"Hey Jacky, how was your morning?" I asked as he greeted me at the door. I'd let him open the door for me now as a way of getting him up off his bed a bit more. He waved his hand back and forth, indicating it was up and down. I smiled softly and looked at the almost finished puzzle on the ground. He must have worked on it while I was gone. Good.

"Well, I was called into a case where someone robbed a bank and I had to chase them down. They dragged us all over town trying to escape but we got them. Because bad guys never win," I said, trying to entertain him slightly but making silly motions with my hands.

He smiled a little and pulled out his phone, quickly typing with more speed than when he first started texting me. He did a quick double check before letting the robotic speaker voice talk to me for him.

"How much did they try to steal?" The voice asked. I smiled and shrugged my shoulders.

"I don't know. Me and Felix only helped chase them down. Some of the other officers, Bob and Wade, sorted the rest of the case out since it's their specialty," I said. I was about to sit down when the speaker to Jack's phone went off again.

"What's your specialty?" It asked. I smiled softly and looked at him.

"Well, cases like yours really. Missing persons, kidnappings, torture and violence and helping check up on the victim so they can recover. That sort of thing," I said, not thinking of the words I'd used carefully.

"Is that why you're here. To 'check up' on me?" The speaker said, the sentence making me stop in place. Jack had his usual expressionless face on but his eyes gave all his emotions away.

"What? Why would you think that?" I asked, patiently waiting for his answer as he typed into his phone.

"Because no one else visits. You probably only visit because you have to, pretending to care like all the other nurses. Pretending to be concerned about my health when you really just don't want to get a bad review," the speaker said as Jack looked away from me. I felt my heart drop and shatter. Did he really think that's why I visited him? Because I cared about my job review?

"Jack, I'm not even meant to be here right now. Ken is in jail, my case with you is over. Once you were handed over to this place I didn't need to see you again but I chose to come. I chose to spend my spare time coming here and keeping you company. I chose to be here I wasn't forced to," I said, my voice coming out shaky. I felt heartbroken that he thought that way.

I waited to see if he would reply back but he didn't. I felt awkward standing in the room and needed to get out. Just get some fresh air and clear my thoughts on the situation. Anything that might help explain to him that it was my chose to see him.

"I gotta go. I'll see you later maybe," I said as I quickly left the room. I hurried down the hall, seeing Felix and Cry doing craft in one of the side rooms. I didn't stop to talk to them as I kept walking out of the large building. I waved to the lady at the front desk, who seemed confused that I was leaving so early, but didn't say anything as I left.

I passed my car and kept walking, feeling like a good walk would be good for me at the moment. My thoughts were right as my thoughts began to calm down and I could think clearer now. I took slow calming breaths as I walked down the almost empty evening street. It was close to dark and most people had gone home by now.

I stopped at some lights and watched all the different colours change. When I was allowed to cross I casually walked across the road, heading into warm shop. I looked around and noticed it was a toy shop. Several different toys; ranging from big to small; soft or hard (no); fluffy or smooth.

One toy in particular caught my eye. It was a small blue teddy bear with soft fluffy fur. I thought it over for a second and decided to get it for Jack, telling myself to go back and appolagise for leaving and sounding like a jerk. I purchased the toy and carried it in a small bag by my side.

I decided to stop by star buck, ordering a quick coffee and talking to some friends that were there. When I finally made it free of social interaction I headed back towards the mental ward, following the same path as last time.

Once again I stopped at the lights and waited to cross but as I reached half way I heard the squeal of tires and in a flash I was on the ground, pain engulfing my entire body. I let out a groan as I tried to sit up, head puning and my vision blurred.

I saw shadowed figured above me as everything began to fade, my heard beating in my ears. I tried to stay conscious but as each second passed I felt myself growing weaker and weaker. I heard muffled voices all around me but no words sunk in. I could only just make out the sound of sirens in the far distance before I lost my vision and everything went black.
