Maya's POV
I look at Colby. He's not answering.
"Colby please." I grab his jacket and look up at him.
"My mom's not gonna let me stay at my house." My eyes are starting to water up and my voice is getting shakey.
"Hey.... y- you can stay. Okay?" He says, holding me.
"Really?"
"Yeah. I mean, I didn't even stand up for you back there at the hospital when I should've. So this is the least I could do."
"What do you mean? You think it's your job to protect me or something?"
"I dunno. Look, don't take this the wrong way but, you're really special to me. That's all I know."
I start blushing. He notices.
Shit.
"Yeah..... um where am I gonna sleep?" I ask, trying to change the subject.
"I'll worry about that. All you have to worry about is getting your stuff from your house."
"Okay hold on." I say, pulling out my phone.
6:36- well can I come over to say goodbye at least?
6:38- no. - mom.
"Welp, looks like we're gonna have to sneak in my house. You up for that?"
"Yeah sure. So tell me where your house is."
"Yeah. Okay." I put the GPS on and type in my address.

We pull aside the curb a few houses down from mine and we get out quietly.
"Okay we're gonna go around the back." I whisper to Colby.
"Okay."
We walk into my backyard and I see my window. Upstairs.
Shit.
I'm not gonna lie, I can climb pretty well. When me and my brother were younger we'd always climb trees together. But he helped me a little bit. I guess Colby can take that role now.
"How the hell are you gonna get up there?" Colby asks.
"Look, do you trust me?"
"Of course but what-" I cut him off.
"Then lemme get on your shoulders."
"But would if you fall trying to get up to your window. That's pretty high up"
"Trust me." I say. He nods.
I get up on his shoulders. When I do, it only lifts me up a few feet. But it helps.
"Okay I'm gonna stand on your shoulders." I say looking down at him.
"Okay. Be careful." He says, getting ready for me to do what I'm about to do.
I stand up on his shoulders and then I grab the side of the house. He's holding my feet down. I grab my window seal.
"Let go and spot me." I say.
"What?! Are you crazy!?"
"Yes, now do it."
He lets go and I hold tight onto the window seal. I put my foot on the top of a window under me and manage to open my window. I pull myself up, and into my room.
