I pulled my hair into a ponytail and walked down the stairs to the living room. There, sitting on the furniture, was my mother and father, watching the news.
"Your sister called. She'll be home tomorrow," my mother said, not even looking at me. A smile came over my face. I loved when Alexa came home for break.
"That's great. Um, I have something to tell you guys."
"Spit it out." My mom continued to look at the TV screen. Didn't even look my way. My father hasn't looked my way either.
"You might want to pause the TV for this." I was so nervous that I couldn't have any distractions. It would make me change my mind on my decision to tell them.
My mom irritatingly paused the TV and turned toward me. My dad followed suit.
"What?" My mother said.
"Alright so I've been wanting to tell you guys this for a while and I've decided it's finally time. Mom, Dad...um...I like...girls."
They stared at me for what felt like forever. Then I saw the fear in my mother's eyes. Those beautiful blue eyes that I inherited. They immediately drew your attention. They stared into your soul. That's how she met my father. The curly dirty blonde hair and blue eyes. And those cheekbones, so striking. She was amazingly beautiful. I wish I looked like her. But the eyes are the only thing I seemed to get.
There was anger in my father's eyes. His were nothing but a mud brown. Nothing special about them. But he was still an attractive man. He had a square face and sharp jaw line. Nothing too special about him. I got his dark brown hair. But mine was curly like my mother's.
I was an attractive girl, but only average. And my personality was nothing like their's. They were mean and steely, strict. I was nice and easy going. Made friends well. And I was about to realize how different and mean they could be.
"Pack your things and get out of my house. You have 10 minutes," my father tried his best to keep his voice down, but it wasn't working very well.
"What?" It came out weakly. I looked at my mother and she nodded at me. She agreed with him.
"You are not our daughter anymore. So you are not allowed in our house. You have ten minutes or I'm calling the police. Go."
My heart sank. I knew they weren't going to take it well, but I never expected this. I was being kicked out. I couldn't believe it. I had ten minutes. Tears started streaming down my face. This couldn't be. I had to leave. Where would I go? What would I do?
"Nine minutes."
I realized I was wasting time and this was reality. I ran up the stairs and grabbed my suitcase out of the closet. I started grabbing t-shirts and underwear and stuffing as much clothes in as I could. I grabbed a separate bag and threw in pictures and stuffed animals and blankets, everything that I would want to keep. Next, I went to the bathroom and gathered all of my toiletries. That was about everything. I looked at my watch and realized I still had three minutes. I ran downstairs, past my crying mother and my father who was comforting her. I grabbed a grocery bag and threw in bottles of water and food. I remembered how cold it was outside and grabbed my coat and keys as I ran back upstairs. I found all the cash I had and stuffed it into my pocket. Then I gathered all my things. Three bags and a pillow. That's what I'm going to be living with. This was reality, I was being kicked out of the house.

The door slammed behind me and I heard the lock click. That was the last time I would be back in that house for a while. Maybe ever again. I started walking through the dark and I decided I needed to call someone to stay with for the night. I called my friend Sarah.
