~Matt's POV~
I put the now empty bottle on the table and then leaned back on the couch again.
"Maybe you should slow down, that was your third drink." Amy told me.
We were in her basement, her parents were out for the night, and we opened up their liquor cabinet. Amy also called Rory over.
"Who cares?" I said to her as I got up to get another one.
"You know, we didn't really hear her side of the story." Rory says. "There could be an explanation."
"Yeah, and what if that explanation is: he's better than you?" I asked him, probably coming off as a bit more angry then I really was. "What then, Rory? What do I do then?"
"Yes, that is true, but maybe there's a different explanation." He tried to tell me.
I just sat back down as I opened another bottle.
"I can't believe she did that to me." I said.
"Do you want me to kick her ass? Because I will kick her ass." Amy said to me. "I have connections. I can call some people." It was funny how she got so protective of the people she cared about.
"Hey, you are not going to go after Clara like that." Rory said to her. "Maybe we shouldn't jump to conclusions like we are."
"Where you there last night?" Amy sasses back to him. "It was pretty obvious what was going down."
"Looks can be deceiving." He told her.
Then they got into an argument. I stopped listening and just looked down at the floor. Talking about it made me feel worse. I don't know what to do anymore.
Then my phone started ringing. I look down at it to see who could be calling, hoping it wasn't Margret. But it was someone even worse. Clara was calling me.
Amy and Rory had also noticed that she was calling.
"Good, now we can get an explanation." Rory said with a relieving smile.
"No, tell her to get lost!" Amy said to me. "She hurt you. Don't even answer it."
I was conflicted as I lifted up my phone.
"Do I answer?" I asked both of them, hardly able to get my words out.
"No." Amy told me.
"Yes!" Rory said.
I suppose it wouldn't hurt to just answer. But what would I say to her? What would she say to me? What am I supposed to do?
I pressed the accept button and put my phone up to me ear. I could see Amy throwing her hands up in frustration.
"H-hello?" I was almost unable to speak.
"Matt?" I heard her say. Was she... crying? It sounded like she was sobbing.
"Um... yes?" I say quietly and play with the fabric on my pants. I was afraid. I felt my heart start beating faster and faster.
"Matt, I'm so sorry I don't know what happened please you have to believe that I didn't know it wasn't you." She spoke almost too fast for me to understand. She spoke through her tears. I don't know... I guess just hearing her cry broke my heart more.
I didn't respond to her, I only looked down. How was I supposed to believe her? I know what I saw.
"What's she saying?" Amy asked me as she eagerly sat next to me.
"Please..." I heard Clara say. "I swear I wouldn't do anything like that to you."
"But you did do it." I finally responded, then there was silence for a moment, "you did it. You... you were with my brother. And you hurt me, Clara."
