Jo Aly was tossing and turning that night in her bed, unable to sleep because of the energy that was coursing through her veins. Aly couldn't shake off the nagging feeling that the legend was more than an old man's tale. So she decided to go to the old man that always told the tale to children in the village.
She sneaked out of her bedroom window, careful to hit the ground with some ease. If she was found outside of her house at this time of the night, she wouldn't be out for weeks. She pulled out a black coat from behind the fence and pulled its hood over her head. The night would be dark enough to cover her.
Maneuvering herself in and out of the bushes, she was able to get to the river near the forest -- where she found Old Father Kook singing that same song he sang over and over again in the same spot he sat whenever he came to the river.
That song he's singing...he sings it every day. Why? What does it mean to him?
"Old legend has it..." Father Kook began.
There was no way he could've seen Aly. She was in the bushes behind him, and had made no sound. Maybe...he was talking to himself?
"...that this song was once sung in the Twiceland."
How did he know --
"Come child, I know you're curious."
Aly emerged slowly from the bushed and sat next to Father Kook. She shyly looked down at her feet and played with her hands in her lap.
"I know I'm not supposed to be here," she whispered.
"That's true," he said, looking at Aly, even though she looked away from him. The moonlight shone softly on the river before them, and reflected onto Aly's glowing face. Her eyes darted over the fish in the water with mock interest and longing, that Father Kook secretly wished to satisfy.
"So? Why are you here?"
"What's in that forest?" Aly asked, still not looking at Father Kook.
"...so you know the secret then, child?"
"Sometimes, by the river...I hear singing. The song is happy, but the voice is in pain. Whoever is in there isn't scary. They just need help. Is that true?"
Old Father Kook smiled up at the girl and took her hand. Aly looked down at the sitting old man, but only to find empty space.
...where did he go?
Aly looked around, but couldn't find the man. It was as if he disappeared. Yet she could still feel her hand in his. How was it that she could feel him and his presence? He wasn't present at all.
When Aly turned back to the rock he sat on, Old Father Kook was laughing and shaking his head. Aly jumped at the man, who reappeared so suddenly and didn't seem to be fazed at all.
But the man had changed. Old Father Kook...was anything but old.
Aly's jaw dropped a meter to the ground, and her soul left her body the minute she laid eyes on this young man. She could barely regain her composure, and whatever words she could muster up came out in short squeaks and cracks.
"O-Old...F-Fa-Fa-ther K-Koo-k..."
"Do I look old to you?" he said, laughing harder.
"I'm s-sorry..."
"Here, child, call me Jungkook. That's my real name."
"Jungkook...who are you?" Aly said, approaching him once again.
Jungkook's answer surprised her, even though it shouldn't have.
"I'm a Kpop Fan."
"Wow~~ um..that's great, Jungkook!"
"Now, child...this journey to visit this ancient one is very...dangerous."
"How is that so?" Aly asked, with so much curiosity.
"They're very...very sensitive and fragile as glass. Nobody nor I knows its gender. Those who used to keep in touch with them may possibly know...but I highly doubt they're still around."
"This sounds like the perfect adventure for me!"
"It may seem so...but a young kpop fangirl like you should keep an eye out if you plan to do so. Afterall...nobody's dared to even visit nor walk by there for years and years."
"Exactly! I want to make a difference instead of just hearing that voice filled with pain every night. If no one's going to do so...then I'll be willing to, no matter what. My dream's always been to change the world, beautifully inside and out within all of us, human-beings. I want to be remembered instead of just standing there doing nothing!!"
"My dear child, Aly..." he paused to warmly embrace Aly.
Aly embraced Jungkook back.
"I respect your dream quite alot. You know, there aren't many like you in this world but since you're the only one at this case...I'll let you go onto this journey. Don't worry about others knowing about this...I have a plan and my ways. You're also right...we can't just let that continue, day by day."
"Yes! Thank you thank you!!!" Aly said and got excited!
"Meet me here again...tomrrow night. Ready. Alright?"
"Yes, Jungkook."
"Now head to bed, my child~" Jungkook said and vanished away.
Aly walked back and quietly made it to her bed.
It took a while for her system to go down and sleep because she was up for the adventure.
Tomorrow.
