You let out a grunt as you jumped backwards from the incoming swing of Lexa's sword, swinging yours as well to block the attack. Lexa continues to swing her sword forcing you to block instead of attack back. She swings the sword from above her head and you hold yours in front of your face, attempting to push back the Commanders blade.  But since you focused so intently on her sword, she kicked your leg out from under you and brought you to the ground with her blade at your throat.

"You have to be ready for anything in battle, (Y/N). It could be the difference between life and death." Lexa reminds you as she tosses her sword down, extending her hand towards you.

"I understand Commander, it won't happen again." You say with a heavy sigh, wiping sweat off of your forehead with the back of your hand before grasping hers.  She pulls you up and kicks your sword to your feet. "Again, Commander?" You ask, starting to get annoyed. She has been training you mercilessly for days now, and you were upset that it was only you she was giving a hard time. Even though the others that would be fighting in your future conclave were children, Lexa was no one to treat anyone different. Or so you thought.

"You have to have training, (Y/N). You must be ready for the conclave."

"But this is just brutal! Why am I the only one being trained so rough?"

She doesn't answer your question, but instead lunges at you for an attack. You quickly pick up your sword and jump out of the way of her attack, stumbling a bit on your landing. You swing at Lexa while her back is turned and manage to knick her upper arm with the tip of your blade. She quickly spins and swings at your unsteady feet, which causes you to stumble. Lexa takes the opportunity and attempts to kick your leg out from under you again. But unlike last time, you are paying more attention to the battle. As her leg is stretched out, you hook your foot under her calf and kick upwards. Lexa falls onto her back and you stand above her body, holding your sword against her neck. She stares up at you, observing your dirty face, the sweat dripping off your nose, and how the sweat is causing some of the hair on your hairline to curl slightly. She smiles slightly as the metal presses against her neck.

"Good, (Y/N)." She says to you as you step back and sheath your sword and extend your hand to help her up. She takes it and allows you to pull her onto her feet.

"Now are you going to explain why I am getting all this extensive training?" You breathe out as Lexa picks up her sword. She sighs as she sheaths it and walks up to you, leaving about a foot of space between the two of you. "I think it's gone past the point of training for the conclave."

"I just-" Lexa starts, but stops talking as a puzzled expression settles on her face as she tries to figure out how to word it. She finally says, moving closer to you as she talks. "I just want to make sure you are ready for anything that may happen, whether it be the conclave or an attack. I don't want you to die." She says the last sentence in a whisper as the distance is quickly closed between you two. Before you can respond, Lexa leans forward and connects her lips with yours. At first you are shocked, but as she slowly starts to pull back you kiss her as well. She places one hand on the side of your face, cupping your cheek. When she pulls away again, you let her as you meet her eyes.

"I can't lose you, (Y/N)."

"You wont Lexa. I promise."
